PRINCIPAL UPDATE PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Hello Sheiko Families.

We have had another great week at Sheiko Elementary! Students have been AMAZING in STEAM and Laker Learning! I had the opportunity to teach one of the Laker Learning lessons, and the students were engaged in our story and did a wonderful job retelling the story with me and then with a partner.

We have two "Big Announcements" this week! Our first "Big Announcement" is to be sure to check your child's folder for their NWEA family report. I did send a separate email this morning about it as well. Our second "Big Announcement" is about Trunk or Treat and our costume parade. Trunk or Treat is coming up on 10/25. We will have extra parking next door in our facilities lot (the bus yard).

Our parade will be on 10/31 at 1:30. Parents are invited to the gym to watch the parade. You do not need an iChat form to attend the parade, but if you are volunteering for your child's party, please be sure to fill that out by 10/25 at the very latest because it needs to be approved. You will also need to turn in a copy of the front of your driver's license. We appreciate your support with this. Please check the newsletter from your child's teacher to find out the time of the party.

Here are a few notes about costumes:

- Costumes should be school-appropriate. Let's steer clear of anything too scary or gory. We want all of our little ones to feel comfortable and have fun!

- Safety first: Make sure costumes are easy to move in and don't obstruct vision (no masks). Safety is our top priority!

- Respectful choices: Let's be mindful of cultural appropriations and ensure that costumes are respectful to all.

- No "look alike" weapons or sharp objects.

- Costumes should be brought to school - not worn to school.

- Have a BOO-tiful time! Encourage creativity and have fun with it! We can't see what everyone comes up with!

As always, thank you so much for all that you do! We really appreciate partnering with you!

Gooooooooooooo Lakers!

Last week students learned how to play Gaga ball. They love it! This week students began a hockey unit. They learned about the parts of the stick, how to hold it properly and stick handling. They’re excited to play a hockey game! Please continue to help remind your child to wear proper shoes for PE. No sandals, slides, crocs or boots. This is for their safety.

Proceeds support Oakland Early College and Laker Opportunity Center student activity fund and West Bloomfield Educational Foundation.

Thank you for being our valued partners as we work together to provide the best educational experience imaginable for the children in the West Bloomfield School District. We are proud to provide great opportunities for each student, and we aim to do an ever better job next school year. Your input and feedback will be instrumental in our planning, as it helps identify what is working and where we can grow as a district. Next week WBSD will be distributing surveys to students, families and staff in our K-5 buildings.

Next week, please watch your email for the link to the K-5 WBSD Family Feedback Survey and take a moment to share your insights. If you have questions about the surveys or would like to provide additional information after taking it, please contact the Educational Services Department at 248-865-6496.
