Tidbits from the President
Hello everyone, and happy Spring! I hope you had a wonderful Easter. I love this time of year, when everything seems new. Speaking of new, we would like to see all the new quilts and items on which you’ve been working. Post pictures of your work on our Facebook page. It inspires others when they see something new.
Lisa Erlandson was such a great guest speaker! I hope everyone enjoyed her program as much as I did. She had some valuable information on how to plan and make your best quilt. She showed examples of quilts with low contrast and high contrast, among other things. She also talked about measuring borders and applying binding. It was a very timely program, considering we should all be getting quilts ready to enter in the show. It would be great if each member of our Guild would enter at least one quilt. You can enter up to three quilts, but I do not want to put that much pressure on you.
Please consider making a mini for the Silent Auction at the North Texas Quilt Festival. All proceeds from the sale of mini’s made by our Guild, go to our Guild. They need to be turned in to Ann Houpt by June 30th. Dee Ramirez and I are volunteering to do the quilting on mini quilts that are going to be donated for the Auction. Just let us know if you need one quilted!
Have a great day, and happy sewing!
Cecilia Buckholz

Workshop: 4 Patch Posey
Pamela Gantz will be presenting 4 patch posey. She will be here in person and there will be a workshop on the following Saturday. The workshop will be $40, a bargain now a days. She will teach her technique as we make a table runner. It would be great to have a lot of participants.
Upcoming Programs
May: Marcie Baker- program and workshop, Binding
Recognized internationally for her expertise in quilting, Marci enjoys sharing ideas that simplify the process of quilting.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Marci has loved sewing for years, making her first quilt at age 9 and sewing her own clothes in high school and college. She began teaching quilting in 1989 for her local quilting guild and shops. Marci graduated with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in math. As an admirer of traditional quilts, Marci was inspired to author books on Not Your Grandmother’s™ Quilts. This series uses traditional patterns people associate with the grandmother and simplifies the technique. She has invented several tools to help make quilting easier for all. Her Know Before You Sew™ solution cards take common problems quilters encounter and provide easy-to-understand solutions. Enthusiasm and inspiration for quilting can be seen throughout her lectures, workshops, and books. She has been featured in Redbook, on Home and Garden TV’s Simply Quilts, Quilters’ News Network, NBC’s The Jane Pauley Show, and has been published in American Quilter Magazine and Traditional Quiltworks.

Mystery Quilt
We are doing a ‘mystery quilt’ if you want to join the fun. Lynda will present an ‘action’ to complete during the month. The January clue was cutting the pieces. February, we started putting it together.
Lynda will present the next step at the April meeting and she will send out the instructions, via Smores, the next day ..including all previous instructions.

Member Highlight
We are adding a new section to the newsletter - Member Highlight. Each month we will "highlight" a guild member so we can all get to know a little more about that person.
This month our "Member Highlight" is Dee Ramirez our President Elect
I am married and have 2 children, 2 bonus kids and 1 granddaughter. Quilting is my passion and I love sharing it with others, whether it is gifting a quilt, teaching someone how to quilt or sharing ideas and techniques with other quilters. I also have a longarm quilting business that I operate out of my home.
How long have you been quilting: 20+ years
How long have you been a member of the guild? I don’t quite remember. It has been at least 4 years.
What is your favorite part of quilting?
I enjoy the entire process start to finish (except for maybe binding). But I would have to say my favorite part of quilting is seeing the joy on the face of the person I give a quilt to or the delight of a client when I return their top to them all quilted just the way they wanted.
Name one thing you appreciate about the quilt guild.
Meeting new people, seeing their projects and learning about all their quilting experience, ideas and knowledge.
Do you have a quilt goal for this year?
Learn something new!
Web Page
The guild web page is being actively updated.
It can be accessed at fwqg.org
NTQF 2026
July 30 - August 1
The dates for the North Texas Quilt Festival are July 30 - August 1 at the Irving Convention Center on Las Colinas Blvd. If the idea of driving there freaks you out, talk to me. I found a route that is less stressful. Tickets for the quilt show are $15 at the door, BUT you can buy them from the guild for $12. We will begin selling tickets in May. We are allotted tickets according to our membership; hopefully we will sell all of them since we get to keep ALL the money from the sale of our allotted tickets.
You may now enter your quilts for the show. Please enter sooner rather than later because there are now eight guilds competing for the same 400 slots. Your quilt does not have to be completed when you enter it, but it should be recognizable in the picture you must submit with your entry form. You may enter as many quilts as you like, but only three will be invoiced (at $27 each). If, at the end of enrollment, there are still spots available for quilts, your additional quilts may be accepted and invoiced.
On your entry form, be sure to designate Fort Worth Quilt Guild. The committee has a copy of our roster and will verify your membership. Please read all the category definitions carefully. If you have questions you can text or call me at 817-578-5952 or email me at gstroud49@gmail.com. One category that is frequently confusing is Workmanship. If your quilt was made from a kit, it belongs in this category. This means that you did not choose the fabric or the pattern; you bought it as a kit and your workmanship is on display. LEGIT kits belong in the Workmanship category.
The drop off day for quilts has changed. No longer on Sunday afternoon, it will now be on Tuesday, July 28, from 3-7 pm. If this is inconvenient for you, there are always guild members who volunteer to turn in quilts for others. Quilt pick up time is from 6:15-7:30pm on Saturday evening after the close of the show.
I am the guild representative to the quilt show. My job is to attend show meetings on Zoom and to convey information to you. Please let me know if I can help. —Grace Stroud
Quilt Show Booth – HOLD EVERYTHING!
One of the guild’s biggest money makers is the booth we have at the North Texas Quilt Festival. We sell handmade items made by you, our members. The theme for our booth this year is
HOLD EVERYTHING!
We are asking for items that contain things, such as quilt bags, microwave bowl holders, placemats, project bags, shopping totes. Chris Tomich recently made some little fabric tea bag holders that would be great for taking along your favorite tea or even your personal supply of sweetener. Pat Wagers has made more of the jar and bottle openers that we sold so many of last year as well as microwave bowls. I have been making three different sizes of project bags. Serena Stroop made some very cute holders for the Tooth Fairy. This month I am moving on to a bag from a byAnnie pattern called Clam Up.
Pat and I will be collecting your donations at each guild meeting. We need to have most of our stock by early July, since I’m going on a cruise and will be back on the Monday night before we need to go set up at the convention center on Wednesday. We plan to price and pack everything before I leave.
We look for quality over quantity. If you would be proud to give what you make to a friend or if you’d keep it yourself, someone else will probably like it and buy it. Use the good fabric! We try to price our items fairly to reflect the cost of materials, the time involved, and the quality of the finished product.
Thank you in advance for your hard work and your donations.
Grace Stroud and Pat Wagers

The raffle tickets for the quilt "Snow Days" have arrived. If you have not picked yours up be sure to get them at the March meeting.

BEES
Embroidery Bee
For our March meeting, we began with Brunch at Ginger Brown's. We greatly enjoyed the extra fellowship and will probably do this for future meetings as well.
Our April meeting will be at Hollis Threads at 11 AM on April 30, and we will feature red, white, and blue items. As always, we will have a show and share time for any projects we have worked on and for any revelations and questions relating to machine embroidery. We continue to welcome new members. Contact Wanda Edmunds or Sarah Tutt for more information.
We will probably begin with brunch at Ginger Brown's, but those details have not been set.

Frayed Knots
meets 2nd Tuesday evening
Tight Knots Bee
MARCH: On Wednesday, March 4, Judi Janes, Barbara Anderson, Carolyn Hughes, Pat Wagers, Margo Grunseich, Grace Stroud, Chris Tomich and Peggie Herring met at Chris' home with Peggie as hostess. The discussion began with the recent election - no discussion of politics per se, but there was talk about the long lines. A former co-worker of several members, Beth Llewellyn McLaughlin, is in a Democratic primary election run-off for Texas House of Representatives District 97. (Well, maybe a little talk about politics!)
SHOW AND TELL: Carolyn showed a baby quilt made for JPS NICU made with "Debbie Miles teddy bear fabric". Pat W. showed counted cross stitch (which would make my eyes cross), luggage tags and microwave bowls made for the quilt show boutique and a quilt of valor. Prolific Chris had bags full of donation items for JPS and for the quilt show boutique. Among the items she made 38 crocheted baby caps, crocheted baby blanket, 18 bookmarks, numerous tea bag wallets, eye glass cases, and seat belt covers. Margo showed a NICU quilt with Spring flowers and a gorgeous Robert Kaufman panel she bought of Gustav Klimt's "Woman in Gold". Patty F (in absentia) made 7 Kennel Quilts. Judi reported that she had finally completed her Baseball Quilt and gifted it to her son and daughter-in-law. Grace has added clam-up bags to her inventory for the boutique. Peggie finally got her sewing machine back following its checkup so she can work on a quilt for her 2nd great grandchild.
DESSERT: Cherry cobbler and ice cream served by Peggie
LEFT-RIGHT -CENTER: All the green fat quarters won by Chris.
APRIL: The first Wednesday of April, which happened to be April 1, the Tight Knots Bee met at the Club House at Carolyn Hughes' condo complex. Members present: Peggie Herring, Grace Stroud, Pat Ford, Margo Grunseich, Cheri Bigham, Chris Tomich, Cecilla Villa, Judi Janes, Barbara Hughes, and Barbara Anderson. Conversations included the Bluebonnet Shop Hop in South Texas, the All-Texas Shop Hop (three were crazy enough to go on the first day...) and grandsons. Cheri's grandson Knox was involved in a serious ATV accident. His prognosis is good.
Chris and Judi have grandsons who continue to excel in competitive gymnastics.
SHOW AND TELL: Ceci showed an alphabet banner made using Big Dreams embroidery software. Chris completed blocks for a hugs quilt and pan handles and diaper and wipe carriers for the boutique. Cheri made baby bibs for the boutique. She also bought seven baby quilts at an estate sale for $5 each to be donated to JPS. Margo showed her completed giraffe quilt top. Pat W. made five bags for the boutique. She also showed a counted cross stitched framed picture of a dachshund she did for her husband's 88th birthday. Grace continues producing merch for the boutique-- 27 project bags, cosmetic bags, and cord wraps.
Grace challenged us to make coasters for the boutique. Customers in the FTWQG booth at the quilt show will receive a free coaster with purchase. Grace had a box of charm squares and 5" squares of batting for bee members to take home. Take this as a challenge to guild members as well....use some of those left-over batting scraps and random charm squares to make coasters. Even if you don't think you can make items to sell for the boutique - you can make coasters! And they will be greatly appreciated.
DESSERT: White Chocolate Raspberry Nothing Bundt Cake
LEFT-RIGHT-CENTER: Barbara Anderson won the polka dot fat quarters.

Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.
Retreat
Guild Retreat will be held April 16 - 19 at The Compass Centre in Mt. Calm.
Quilts Of Valor (QOV)
The Ceremony on March 29th went very well, with eight quilts being awarded at the VFW and one at a veteran’s home that afternoon. We had several Guild members in attendance, which always makes me happy. Pictures were posted on our Facebook page.
We received a sweet email from the wife of one of the Veterans. It reads: “Thanks you so much for sending these Pictures! They are wonderful. I know Brandon has already enjoyed the quilt. He’s been sleeping with it every night. Thank you again! Christie”
(Brandon’s quilt was made by Dee Ramirez and her sewing group.)
The ladies at Stevenson Oaks retirement community are busy creating Quilts of Valor to award the Veterans who live there. They’ve been supplying everything needed to finish them, from the tops, batting and backing. Our Guild has made several quilts for them and so has the Bear Creek Quilt Guild QOV group. There are approximately forty veterans who will receive quilts by Veterans Day.

Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.

If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Harris Downtown for their NICU unit.
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
We have a new duo heading up this volunteer opportunity
Linda Roeder and Serena Stroot
NICU Co-Chairpersons
-------
We encourage each member to read the information below, just to refresh your memory about all the items you can make for JPS. It’s not just NICU quilts. They love to get baby quilts of all sizes. The NICU quilts can’t contain flannel, but other quilts can. A new item added to the list is a wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).
Our donations are really appreciated by JPS, the moms, and any other patients who receive them.
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts -NO Flannel. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.
JPS has also requested other items for their patients:
Baby Items:
JPS has requested regular baby hats made with stretchable yarn. They no longer take preemie hats
Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes
Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”
Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long
9 inches – circumference for small
11 inches – circumference for large
CozyCub–Dandle.LionMedical www.dandlelionmedical.com
Adult Items:
These items are mainly used for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the JPS Cancer Center and geriatric patients.
Bags to hang on walkers
Adult quilts or blankets (quilted or fleece)
Wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).
Ostomy bag covers
Small heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to place under their arms after surgery
New request — bags that can be attached to walkers to hold keys, water bottles, and other small items.

After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text, JPG or JPEG pictures. Sometimes the PNG format also works. We can attach PDF, Word, and XL documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files that contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
I would like to share pictures of show-and-tell items, but we must have someone willing to take pictures and email them to the guild email address.
If you are unable to bring your project to the meeting for Show and Share, send a picture to the guild address - with subject - Newsletter show n share. We can include a brief description
