What a GREAT Start!

Century Families,

We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year! Our students have been working hard to learn routines and procedures while also building strong relationships in their classrooms. Teachers and staff have been so proud of the positive energy and enthusiasm students bring with them each day. Already, we see a strong sense of community forming as everyone works together to create welcoming and supportive learning environments. Thank you to families for your partnership in helping students start the year off with confidence and excitement. We look forward to all the growth, learning, and fun that this school year will bring!

This newsletter will bring you important information for the month of September. One thing specifically you can note are our Annual Title 1 documents. Thank you for taking the time to review those linked below.

Additionally, I'd like to continue to encourage everyone to apply for the Free and Reduced lunch application at the following link: https://www.myschoolapps.com/

Thank you for a successful start to the school year and for sharing your wonderful learners with us. Please never hesitate to reach out to me via our main office with any questions or concerns.

PARKING LOT

Parking Log Procedures

The following are important reminders of our drop-off and pick-up procedures to help traffic flow safely:

  • Quick Drop-off/Pick up:

    • Students should be seated behind the passenger seat of your car to exit on the “safe side” of the vehicle.

    • Enter school grounds via the traffic drive on 34th St. S. Follow the driving lane closest to the building.

    • As you approach the building and come to a complete stop, your student may safely exit the car and walk into the school.

    • The driver may not park or exit the vehicle in this lane.

    • Note: Use the left lane for drive through only- Students should not exit the car in this lane. Please do not park and leave your vehicle in this lane. It should continuously be moving.

  • If you plan to park or walk your student to/from their assigned door:

    • Drivers: The easiest option would be to park your car near the playground by entering the parking lot on 17th Ave. S. Walk your student on the sidewalk to their designated door. Another option is to enter via the traffic drive on 34th St. S and follow the driving lane closest to the street, pass the drop off spot and park in the few spots in front of the building.

    • Drivers: In order to exit your car, you must be in a designated parking spot not in the traffic lanes.

    • Walkers: Please safely use the sidewalks and crosswalks as you make your way to the designated doors.

  • Please do not park on 34th Street, and do not cross in the middle of 34th St.

ABSENCES AND TARDIES

CENTURY ATTENDANCE LINE

701-746-2443

If your child(ren) are going to be late or absent from school, please inform the school office by calling the attendance line number above before 8:25 am. You will not speak directly to anyone, it is a message line only. Please leave student's name, teacher and reason for absence. All students absent or arriving late because of an appointment of any kind will need to have a written excuse from the doctor's officed in order for the absence or tardy to be excused. Medically excused absences do not count against a student's absences if a note is provided by the medical provider.

Communication between home and school ensures students safety. If the school does not hear from you, we will give you a call to make sure your child is safe. If you are taking your child out of school early for any reason, please call the office in advance or come to Door #1 ring doorbell. We will call them to the office from their classroom and bring them to Door #1 to the parent.

Attendance is very important. If your child is not in school, he/she is missing out on very important learning. We monitor student attendance closely and follow the Grand Forks Public Schools "Stay in School" policy.

SCHOOL CANCELLATION AND POSTPONEMENT PROCEDURES

https://www.gfschools.org/link-2/resources/school-cancellation-and-postponement-procedures

PARENT RIGHT TO KNOW CLAUSE

ESEA Section 1112 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires schools receiving Title

I funds to notify all parents that they have the right to request information regarding the

professional qualifications of instructional staff including teachers and paraprofessionals at

the school. The information must include state level qualifications, licensing criteria for grade

levels and subject areas, teaching under an emergency or other provisional status, and

teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher. If you would like to see the

qualifications, stop by the school office or call 746-2440. Also, the law requires requires

districts to provide parents, on request and in a timely manner, with information regarding

state or local policy, procedures and parental rights regarding student participation in

mandated assessments.

VISITORS

All visitors must sign in at the school office when coming to the school. All doors remain locked during the school day for safety and security purposes. Please utilize the push-to-talk system located at Door #1 to gain entrance into our school and proceed to the office to sign-in and get a visitor sticker. Please do not go directly to the classrooms when the school day is beginning or during instruction. If you need to visit with your child's teacher, call and make an appointment or request that the teacher call you when they are not teaching. Teachers do not always have time to check email throughout the day, so you may not receive an immediate response. Your child's education is our number one priority!

PARENT/GUARDIAN AND EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION

Please keep the school office up-to-date on any address, phone number, and email changes. It is very important that we have all the current and correct information on file. We need updated emergency contact information in the event of an emergency.

FLU SHOT INFO

Parents,

Altru Employer Health Solutions is excited again to partner with faculty and students to provide onsite influenza vaccinations for 2025!

  • Vaccine clinics will be held from September 8th -September 19th
  • Scheduling will be completed electronically through Altru’s open scheduling platform.
  • Below is the URL link and QR code to update registration and demographic information, provide consent to administer vaccinations to your children, and schedule vaccine appointments at each school.
  • Please note the schedules are listed as “Immunization Clinic…” followed by the name for each school.

  • If you have problems scheduling, please email emphealthsol@altru.org, and we will respond by the end of the following business day.
  • Please see additional details regarding scheduling on the next page

  • PLEASE NOTE: Only the correct location/date are important to correctly identify during scheduling. It does not matter which time slot you choose, as schools will identify processes for bringing groups of students down together during the established day/timeframe of the vaccine clinic.
  • The scheduled school will be the location of the vaccination clinic/appointment. Because Altru Employer Health Solutions is administering the vaccines, it will show our address in the appointment. Please pay attention to the arrival location not the physical address of Employer Health Solutions.

  • Parents do not need to accompany their children for their vaccine administration appointments. However, if you choose to do this, please coordinate with your child’s teacher so you know what time your child’s classroom or group will be going to the vaccine clinic at the school.

  • If your student is extremely fearful of shots, we recommend visiting your provider's office for vaccinations. We will not be able to restrain students or provide additional assistance for vaccination administration.

  • If you or your student has known allergies to vaccines, we recommend that vaccination occur in your medical provider’s office.

PTO PTO

Letter from PTO

Welcome back Century students and parents!

Century Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is excited for another amazing school year. We are a volunteer group of parents and Century staff that strives to support the education and social needs of the students, teachers, staff, and families of Century Elementary. By organizing multiple fundraisers throughout the school year, Century PTO is able to provide our Century teachers and students financial assistance for educational resources, additional classroom supplies, and class field trips. We also strive to provide students and their families with activities that create a positive school community. We are excited to begin the year with our upcoming “Fun & Freeze Pops” event on September 5. Finally, we love to celebrate our Century teachers and staff with treats throughout the year. This is all made possible through the amazing support and generosity of our Century families! We invite you to check out our Century Elementary PTO Facebook page to learn more about us. Each year as we have students “graduate” to middle school, their PTO parents go with them. Therefore, we are always looking for new parents to join the group. If you are interested in becoming involved in the Century PTO please join us at our next meeting on September 8 at 6:00 pm in the Century library or send a message to centurypto@gmail.com.

We always welcome new ideas and suggestions!
