Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. We respect the land in which we gather on today.
Grade 5 (23-24)
Staff Spotlight - Ms. Brusse-Paterson
I have been the grade 2 teacher at KPS for the past 14 years and before that I was the grade 6 teacher since 2000!! This will be my 24th year at KPS :) . I also teach art for the primary grades.
I live on a small farm east of Killam with my husband and our three dogs (two springer spaniel puppies, Missy and Lucy, and our 13 year old yellow lab Charlie). Missy and Lucy just finished school to become awesome pheasant hunters this fall!
I like to paint, read good mysteries, go shopping, and spend time with my family on my time off. In the summer months I spend time gardening, camping, kayaking, travelling and staying home to enjoy my farm.
BRSD Education Plan Stakeholder Survey: Your Voice Matters!
We want to hear from you! The BRSD Education Plan Stakeholder Survey is a quick and anonymous way for staff, students and families to share feedback that will guide meaningful improvements in our schools, while supporting the implementation of our Education Plan.
What to expect:
The survey will take 12-15 minutes to complete.
Data collection is conducted externally through Blulantern, ensuring confidentiality.
Your responses will help shape strategies in our Education Plan to support BRSD’s priorities: Learning Success for All, Enhance High Quality Learning and Working Environments, and Well-Being.
Survey links will be shared on February 24th with all staff, families and Grades 4-12 students, and will remain open from February 24 until March 10, 2025.
We encourage staff to complete the survey. Your feedback is critical as we focus on striving for continual improvement in all areas of our Education Plan. Thank you for your engagement!
Alberta Education Assurance Survey and Alberta Education Results Report
Last week, letters and Random Access Codes for the Alberta Education Assurance Survey were sent home with every student from grades 4 - 9. This access code will allow families to complete the anonymous survey. Feedback from this survey is used to support improvements in the education system. Staff use the data from this survey to review the impact of the instruction at KPS and support future planning. This survey provides a wealth of information from parents, students and teachers. Please take the time to complete your survey. We appreciate your support.
If you require a new Random Access Code, please contact the school.
The Battle River School Division annual AERR Review Video is now up on each school's website. Please take a look!
Newspaper Fashion Show
On February 25, our Junior High Leadership group hosted our Pawsitive Behaviour Assembly and Newspaper Fashion Show ( a Colour Group activity). The activity was a smashing success and truly embodied Pawsitive Behaviour. Colour Groups worked together to create newspaper outfits on a maximum of 3 models. Collaboration, Respect and Responsibility shone through in the 35 minutes they had to prepare their models for the runway. Not only were the students highly engaged in this activity, the outfits were phenomenal and, the students took to the runway with spirit and enthusiasm. The outfits created, from top hats, to ball gowns, to warrior armour, were truly creative! Our leadership team deserves a huge round of applause for this contribution to school spirit!
February Pawsitive Behaviour Winners
Our February Pawsitive Behaviour Winners: Cassidy Kelndorfer, Easten Gordon, Emma Hart, Tyson Hogman, Aspen Snethun, Lily Kostelnik. Missing Exander Harris-Harder and Keysten Harris-Harder.
Next Week: Grades K-9 Skating!
KPS students will be skating as part of their PE programs from March 4 - 6. If you have not filled out your pemission form, please do. Kindergarten Eye See…Eye Learn Program and Parent Brochure
As 80% of children’s learning is visual, it is essential to emphasize the importance of scheduling an eye examination for all school aged children, and especially for kindergarten students as they begin their in-school learning years.
Early detection and intervention can significantly impact a child's educational journey. Alberta Health coverage is available for child’s eye exams up to age 19.
