Holy Rosary School Derby
NEWSLETTER / TERM 2/ Week 2/ Thursday 8th May 2025
Message From Miss Melanie
Welcome back to the new term. We have had a busy start to the term and lots of events happening across the term for all our year levels.
Our teachers finished the end of last term leaning about a new writing program that we are going to implement across the school. The program is called Talk 4 Writing and uses oral language to support writing ideas and the development of those ideas in the writing process. Teachers have begun implementing the strategies so we look forward to seeing some great writing development of the rest of the year.
A big thank you to Miss Margaret for organising our MAGIC Day Liturgy, Miss Brooke and Mr Griffin for organising the morning tea, activities and the stall. Thank you to all the MAGIC ladies that joined us on Thursday 8th May to celebrate the loving, caring and kindness that you share with the young people in your care.
Looking forward to a busy and eventful Term Two.
God Bless.
Miss Melanie
Rejoicing Religion
We were saddened at the passing of Pope Francis shortly after Easter and remember him as a kind, humble and deeply compassionate man and leader of the Catholic Church. Our prayers are with the Cardinals as they decide on the next leader of our Church, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
MAGIC Day
On Thursday 8th May, we celebrated the wonderful women in the lives of our students. We commenced the morning with a liturgy, beautifully prepared by Miss Margaret. After our liturgy, our MAGIC women visited classrooms and shared in some special activities prepared by the students. Morning tea was held in the Multi-purpose Room with lots of yummy food shared with the MAGIC women and their special little people. Thanks to Sam from Betta who drew the winners of our MAGIC Day raffle. The winners were;
First Prize - Zarah
Second Prize - Frankie
Third Prize - Caelan
Check out some of the pictures from the event. Keep an eye on the Holy Rosary Facebook page a little later in the week for further pictures of the day.
Thank you to all the special women who attended, we love sharing how much we appreciate all that you do each and every day!
Mr Tony Treacy
It is with great sadness that we share that Mr Tony has recently passed away. Mr Tony was a past teacher and principal at Holy Rosary and is fondly remembered by many within the community of Derby. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Treacy family during this difficult period.
Wear Red to School Day Fundraiser
On Friday 16th May we will be having a Wear Red to School event to raise funds for the Heart Foundation. All students from 3K to Year 6 are encouraged to wear red to school and donate a gold coin to raise funds to support research. Many families are impacted by heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, or other heart related issues across the Kimberley so a great opportunity for our little community to raise some money to support research to find cures.
Cross-country Carnival Term 2
Our Cross-country carnival will be held on Thursday 15th May, with Miss Alexis organising. There will be a slight change to our carnival this year, where we will be timing our students as they compete. The West Kimberley PE Network have implemented qualifying times for students to compete at the Inter-school level so this year we will need to record times.
We are offering before school training to support this change to help build the students' fitness and ability to run the distances required. We encourage as many students as possible to attend this training so that they have the best chance to represent Holy Rosary at the inter-school level. Breakfast will be supplied for students who attend trainings so that they do not need to eat before running.
Medical Action Plans 2025
Please ensure that the school is supplied with a current medical action plan for your child, if they need one. Parents are required to provide the school with a new plan at the start of each school year.
Health Care Card Discount 2025
It is essential for Health Care Card holders to complete the necessary form immediately to be eligible for the school fee discount. Please come into the Admin to provide details at the start of the new school year.
All Health care Cards MUST be current so if yours has expired please come in and provide the updated details to Miss Jenna in Admin.
