From Principal Honeycutt From Principal Honeycutt

What a great first week at North Buncombe Middle School! We hope our students and families had a wonderful start to the school year and that everyone is settling into the routine. It was so good to have our students back in the building, filling our halls with energy, laughter, and a little bit of middle school craziness! Last week, we spent time with each grade level reviewing school expectations, rules, and what it means to be a HAWK. We are excited about the year ahead and the positive culture we are building together.

I also want to let families know that student schedules are now finalized, and we will not be making any additional schedule changes. Thank you for your patience and support as we got the year off to a great start. We are looking forward to an amazing year together! As always, please know that you can reach out to me anytime at nicholas.honeycutt@bcsemail.org. I am always happy to hear from our families and help in any way I can.

MAP Testing MAP Testing

This Wednesday and Thursday, our students will take their MAP Reading and Math assessments. These assessments are given three times throughout the school year and help us measure student growth and identify areas where students may need additional support or enrichment.

The first MAP assessment of the year is especially important because it helps us establish a baseline, a starting point that allows us to see how much each student grows throughout the year.

A few reminders for students:
• Get a good night’s sleep!
• Eat a good breakfast!
• Bring your best effort!

After School Counseling After School Counseling

Middle school can be a lot! Whether your child is feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, dealing with challenges at school or at home, or simply wants someone to talk to, after-school counseling is available at no cost to NBMS students.

Our after-school counseling program provides students with a safe, supportive, and confidential space to talk, work through challenges, build coping skills, and focus on their overall well-being. Students do not need to be experiencing a major problem to participate—sometimes, having a trusted adult to talk with can make all the difference.

Interested in having your child participate? Complete the registration form below. Please note that submitting a registration form does not guarantee a spot in the program. Your child's school counselor will review the request and reach out to you in the near future with additional information.

Help Support our PE Classes Help Support our PE Classes

Help Support our PE Classes through this Donors Choose fundraiser.

Our students deserve PE equipment that is safe, engaging, and built to support the way they learn and play today. Much of the equipment we currently use is over 10 years old and has experienced significant wear and tear. Balls are losing their shape, equipment is becoming difficult to use, and we have limited quantities of some items. New equipment would allow every student to participate more actively, spend less time waiting for equipment, and experience a wider variety of activities.

Physical Education is about much more than playing games — it helps students develop teamwork, confidence, communication, fitness, and lifelong healthy habits.

By providing updated equipment, we can create a more positive and inclusive PE environment where every student has the opportunity to be successful, active, and excited to participate. Your support will make a direct difference in our students' daily experiences and help us provide the quality PE program they deserve.
