What’s Your Good Thing?
August 27, 2026
Dear Families,
If you’ve dropped your child off at SkyView Academy (SVA) recently, you may have seen me standing outside holding a sign asking, “What’s your good thing?”
You may have wondered what that was all about.
One of the things I love about Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) is starting with the positive. At SVA, we start every class, every meeting, and many of our conversations with Good Things. It gives us a chance to pause, recognize what is going well, and share something positive with the people around us.
We start with Good Things because relationships matter. It gives us a chance to stop, learn something about each other, celebrate the good things happening in our lives, and build connections.
When students and adults know they are seen, valued, and connected to the people around them, they are more likely to feel like they belong and succeed at school. CKH is built around strengthening those connections and creating a relationship-driven culture in schools.
Thank you to everyone who has called out a Good Thing from the drop-off line. Whether it was getting to school on time, making it to Friday, or just having a good cup of coffee! Since I’ve been asking parents for their Good Things, I thought I should share a few of mine.
My son, who attended SVA from 5th grade through graduation, just graduated from the University of Central Florida and now works with the San Antonio Spurs. My daughter, who started at SVA in 3rd grade, is beginning her third year in a five-year Master of Social Work program at Loyola University Chicago. I’m proud of both of them and grateful that SVA was a big part of their journey.
One of my Good Things is that I’ve been doing a better job of working toward a goal I’ve had for a long time: becoming fluent in three or more languages. I still have work to do, but I’m making progress. Cose Buone! Coisas Boas!
I am also thankful for the education and preparation SVA gave my children. While I appreciate the strong academic foundation they received, what means more to me is the emphasis on character, relationships, responsibility, and becoming well-rounded individuals. SVA helped prepare them not just to succeed in high school, but to succeed beyond high school and in whatever comes next.
These are my Good Things. What are yours?
Capturing Kids’ Hearts matters to us because we believe school is about more than academics. It’s about relationships, belonging, and creating a community where students and adults look out for one another. Sometimes that starts with something as simple as saying hello, asking someone how they are doing, or taking a minute to share something good.
So, the next time you see me, introduce yourself. Tell me your name, tell me how long you’ve been part of SVA, and most importantly, tell me your Good Thing.
I’d love to hear it, and I know our staff, parents, and students would love to hear it, too.

If you’ve been meaning to order that hoodie, crewneck, zip-up, or other preorder item and keep telling yourself, “I’ll do it later…” This is later.
Preordering is the best way to make sure you get the style and size you want without crossing your fingers and hoping I magically have it in stock later. My Hawk Shop crystal ball is unfortunately still on backorder.
So grab what you want, double-check those sizes, and get those orders submitted before the deadline!
Thank you for continuing to support the Hawk Shop. I absolutely love seeing our students, families, and staff showing off their Hawk pride around SVA!
Happy Shopping!

6th Grade Outdoor Ed is Coming!
Outdoor Education is a three-day program that will take place from Tuesday, September 15 – Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Students will:
- Explore science through hands-on learning
- Practice geography and navigation skills
- Learn environmental stewardship
- Build confidence and resilience
- Strengthen communication and leadership skills
- Develop lasting friendships with classmates
- Create unforgettable memories
Whether your student is brand new to SkyView or has attended for years, Outdoor Education is one of the best opportunities to build friendships, strengthen relationships with teachers, develop confidence, and create memories that often last well beyond sixth grade. Many students tell us this is one of their favorite middle school experiences!
More information can be found on our program flyer.

Set Up Your Students Field Day Campaign Now!
SkyView’s annual Field Day FUNdraiser is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to kick things off this September!
This year, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new fundraising platform through Bolder Events that gives every student the opportunity to create their own personal campaign page. Students can set a fundraising goal, share why they’re raising funds, add an optional photo, and then share their page with grandparents, family, friends, neighbors, and others who want to support them.
Our hope is that these personal campaigns make fundraising easier for families while giving students a greater sense of ownership and excitement as they work toward their goals.
Get Your Student Ready Now!
Although the Field Day FUNdraiser doesn’t officially begin until September, we’re asking families to create their student’s campaign page now. Setting it up early ensures your student is ready to go when fundraising begins and gives our team time to generate the personalized tools you’ll need to share their campaign.
Getting started is easy:
- Create your student’s campaign page (using their name in the name fields) and personalize it with their goal, motivation, and optional photo. Do not submit your campaign until you are finished customizing it. Once it is submitted, it cannot be changed.
- Within 24–48 hours of creating the campaign, you’ll receive an email with your student’s personal giving link, QR code, and fundraising tools.
- Start sharing when the fundraiser launches! Send the link or QR code to family and friends, watch your student’s total grow, and work toward fun individual and class prizes.
