JODEE DeROSE

Dear Stallion Families,

Happy Student Count Day! Today is an essential day for our school, and we want to thank you for prioritizing your student's attendance. Consistent attendance in elementary school sets the foundation for lifelong success. Missing just 10% of the school year (or about two days each month) can make it significantly harder for children to build foundational reading and math skills, while also impacting their social connections and confidence. Arriving on time every day helps students feel settled, connected, and ready to learn. Thank you for building these positive habits early and helping your child thrive!

Looking ahead, we have just one more week of school before Fall Break. Please mark your calendars: there will be no school Monday, October 12th through Friday, October 16th.

Additionally, ballots for the 2026 Colorado General Election are being mailed this week. You can check your voter registration status and track your ballot by visiting GoVoteColorado.com.

Finally, thank you so much for joining us for conferences this week! Your active partnership, support, and enthusiasm for our school community mean the world to us. We truly appreciate everything you do for our Stallions.

Warmly,
Jodee DeRose - Principal

5TH GRADE COGAT INFORMATION 5TH GRADE COGAT INFORMATION

Dear Parents/Guardians,

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February) and 5th grade (November).

As part of this process, ALL students in 5th grade who have not been identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of November 9th. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with more detailed information about this process.

Please see the following for additional information linked below:
