Message from the Principal, Jamie McCarthy

We are celebrating Read Across America this month! Ms. Smith, our librarian has done an outstanding creating authentic experiences for our students. Together we are reading Wonder by R. J. Palacio. The book fair will be open, we have daily themes, host our Reading Tile Night! READING IS FOR EVERYONE!

Attendance is extremely important. Of course we don't want students to attend when they are sick, however I ask that you make every effort to have your child present at school everyday. If you student is unable to attend, it is imperative that you provide documentation to Ms. Campbell in the front office. She is the attendance guru and is willing to help you in any way!

Thank you for continuing to support us as we do our very best each and every day to provide your children with the best education possible!

Special Area Spotlight

Music with Ms. Bowers- We had an awesome February in the Lambs Elementary Art Room! Thank you to every parent volunteer who helped hang up and display our artworks for the Valentine’s Day dance! They looked beautiful and everyone loved them! This month was also Black History Month, and to celebrate we learned about artists like Alma Woodsey Thomas and Jean-Michel Basquiat. We discussed how Alma Woodsey Thomas used broken, repeating lines to create her artworks, and imitated her style in our own artworks. We also discussed how Jean-Michel Basquiat used bright, vivid colors and frantic brushstrokes in his paintings to add movement and drama. To see these awesome artworks, keep on the lookout as you walk down the special area hallway!

PE with Coach Wilber-Hello Lamb's Families!!

This is what we have been working on and will be working on in PE class this month and what we will be working on in the upcoming weeks.

CD/K--we have been learning about the February muscle of the month, the pectoralis muscle (upper chest muscle), and incorporating upper body exercises that help improve the strength of this muscle. We are completing the parachute unit this week, and revisiting our throwing and catching skills for the most of the month of March.

1st/2nd/3rd--we have been incorporating partner warm-up activities to work on upper body strength and cooperation with each other. We will be completing the parachute activity unit this week also and also revisiting our throwing and catching unit, reviewing the cues of a catch and throw while focusing on teamwork and then playing some throwing and catching games outside. Towards the end of March we will then start our striking and hitting unit, where we will explore this unit using stations and small group work (volleyball skills, long handled implements, etc), and trying to be outside more as the weather is becoming nicer.

4th/5th--we have used the majority of the month of February to complete our mid-year Fitness Checks and will be finishing these up this week. Your child should have completed the PACER test (running) and push-up/curl-up tests. They will be using this data to set goals for themselves for the final fitness test of the year sometime in April. Next week we will be starting our volleyball skills unit, working on the skills of bumping/setting/serving to try and play a game of volleyball incorporating teamwork and cooperation.

As always if you have any questions or need further clarifications please don't hesitate to reach out or send a message. Please double check your child's PE day so your child has the proper footwear so that they can be successful in PE class!! Hope you are staying healthy and getting outside to enjoy the warmer weather!!

Library with Ms. Smith-It's March! The busiest time of the year for the Lambs Library!

We are gearing up for Read Across America (RAA) week which is an event created in the spirit of the National Education Association's (NEA) historical celebration, but we've put our own CCSD spin on it to ensure that all preK-12 schools can engage with the activities and feel connected to our district-wide celebration of literacy and a love of reading. Students are the heart of our work in CCSD and literacy is at the heart of all we do in education. During RAA week, the week of March 11-15th, we will also have our Spring Book Fair for students to shop, we will have themed days, Tile Night, "Caught You Reading" prizes, and the school will kick off One School, One Book in which every class at Lambs will all read the novel "Wonder" by R. J. Palacio each day until Spring Break. As the whole school finishes the novel, we will celebrate by having our own Kindness Day on Friday, March 29th! Stay tuned for further details and remember to check your student's folder for pertinent information!

As always, please continue supporting students' logging their reading in Beanstack! This is a great way to track their reading and earn prizes for doing so!

Happy Reading, Lambs!
