Cohasset High School Newsletter
News and Happenings at Cohasset High School
April 3, 2026
Dear Families,
Today marks the last day of quarter 3, which means we are rounding the corner and soon will be abuzz with prom, graduation, and awards ceremonies. It has been a daunting year from a financial perspective, and we are not alone in our challenges, nor are we alone in the emotional impact that resource constraints have on the adult members of our community.
But what you will see in this newsletter is evidence that the best schools don't allow those pressures to impact students. I visited a neighboring town this fall as part of a school accreditation team and that school had faced more serious challenges than we had. But as I left them I noted that those challenges never permeated the student experience, and while that sometimes makes it hard for people on the outside to see just what the climate is like for the leaders in the spaces (our teachers and staff namely), it's the right thing to do by students. As one of our own teachers put it after I checked in to see how he was doing, "The pressure is real and then I start class and I'm reminded of what I love doing." Your students are lucky in that regard. It doesn't happen everywhere.
As we push into spring, please note some of the extraordinary work that our students have been doing both in the building and in the larger communities. We have two international trips on the horizon, have just returned from Model UN, and our athletic teams are poised to compete for more than one state championship.
Ever onward we go.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Scott
Principal

After consulting with administration and guidance, due to the snow days, final exams will be pushed to June 23, 24, and 25th. Each will be an early release day similar to midterms/finals in January. Any conflicts should be brought to the attention of myself or Ms. Darling. Exceptions will be made for extraordinary circumstances only.

Last Friday our seniors participated in the Credit for Life Fair thanks in part to a grant from the Office of Economic Empowerment and Rockland Trust. Thank you so much for an outstanding presentation from Ms. Steinmetz, Rockland Trust, and all of the volunteers that helped make the event successful, especially Ms. Fitzgerald and senior intern Teagan Bridge.

District Wide Concerts Shine
Our all school chorus and band concerts rocked the gym last week. Said one onlooking parent, "But there is something about the concerts . . . where it goes to another level of excellence." Kudos to all of our participants.
Model UN Students from New York
Engaging in what diplomacy is supposed to look like, over 50 students attended Model UN last week as part of the annual simulation. Thank you to Mr. Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Sears, and Ms. Battista for chaperoning. Photos from the event can be viewed below and check out Sari Reyes' recap in The Spot.

Viva Le France
Cohasset HS students taking French were regaled with a concert on Monday, March 30th at Sharon HS to celebrate La Journee de la Francophonie (French-Speaking Culture Celebration Day). Thanks to a grant that Mr. Grasmann submitted, Villa Albertine, the French Cultural component of the French Consulate, we were able to bring a rapper for a performance full of energy.
Quebecois rappeur, KJT sang songs from his latest album and created freestyle raps based on words that the students gave him. Students were able to see French in a real-life situation and meet with students from local schools that were also taking French. The Organization for French-Speaking Cultures recently announced that the French language has moved up to the fourth most spoken language in the world.
Senior Boys Hit the Wall . . .
Senior boys in health class took part in a rock-wall workshop led by guidance counselor Mr. McGowan. During the activity, students focused on building trust, supporting one another, and pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones. Fun way to end the quarter!
While Senior Girls Get RAD with the Police
Over the past several weeks, SRO Greg Lowrance, Detective Julie Hall, and SRO Greg Taylor have had the pleasure of teaching a RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) course to the senior females in Ms. Megnia's Health and Wellness class here at the high school.
These young women have been nothing short of outstanding. Their participation, focus, and commitment throughout the course have been remarkable — and what has been especially inspiring is the way they have supported one another every step of the way, cheering each other on through every drill.
Watching Lennox' Back Brain Kick brough me back to my days of Nintendo and Fighter Hayabusa.
Thank you to our parents!
A special thank you to Andrew Arace and Sean Casey. Mr. Arace visited to discuss his role as a software engineer and the industry, and Mr. Casey came in to speak with the business club about his journey towards becoming a CEO.
Thank You PSO
Thank you to the PSO and our Cafeteria Staff for providing a continental breakfast this past Thursday. Your generosity is always appreciated.
