Annual Library Report
Sherrard CUSD #200: 2025-2026
Goal Check in
- To survey staff about database usage support - I sent out a survey in August to all staff, and based on replies I reached out to individuals, and made support videos that I shared in the newsletters first semester.
- To have more regular meetings with library staff - We met as a group on google meet sometimes, one- on-one in person, and one-on-one in google meets
- To resume regular weeding - I weeded sections at Winola Elementary, Sherrard Elementary, and Matherville Intermediate.
- To continue developing library opportunities for students - We had several programs the Teen Advisory Board developed, and we also had reading programs for students this year. We had individual contests for several months, and a team competition in March!
Library Program Highlights from the Year
Sherrard Elementary and Winola Elementary enjoyed Monarch for a second year!
We supported the Monarch program for a second year, which is a state wide student choice reading program for grades K-3. Karen Millichamp at Sherrard Grade, and Susan Bosold at Winola Elementary, read the books to everyone, and students enjoyed voting. Sherrard grade voted for Claude: The True story of a White Alligator by Emma Bland Smith and Jennifer Potter as their number one choice, which also won at the state level!
Matherville had lessons and the Caudill Program
- 5th and 6th grade students did lessons aligned to the I-SAIL standards during their library time.
- Students also had the option to read Rebecca Caudill Young Readers books and vote in the state wide election.
Junior/Senior High School
- I collaborated with the math department on a series of surveys about reading related topics!
- The Teen Advisory Board at the high school increased its membership, and had a great year planning engaging programs. We did several programs during lunches, including a collaboration with the robotics team. In addition, we also did some reading challenges during October.- March, starting with individual challenges, and ending with a group challenge, that six teams of four competed in!
- We had 25 students read enough of the books on the Rebecca Caudill List to vote this year.
- We were able to save over 60 books this year, partly due to a student aide that was really good at repairs!
- Thanks to the high school student aides this year, Landin E., Maddy M., Quinn M., London P., Olivia D., Emma P., and Marley P.
- In addition to students coming to the library with classes, we had an addition 1,842 student visits into the library from the start of school through May 15 for a variety of purposes.
- I was interrupted to get copies 113 times between February and May.
- We made 811 pots of coffee in the back room during the school year, a collaborative effort!

Data From Around the District
Circulation and Database Usage
- Our library total checkouts are down a bit this year, but that may be because the reports from Alexandria don't seem to be counting renewals anymore, only initial checkouts. When compared with initial checkouts from last year, we are doing about the same.
- I processed 1,085 books for the district libraries this year as of May 8, 2026.
- Out capstone animals database numbers have been falling, and I surveyed elementary staff this spring. Based on the data, we did eliminate that database moving forward. We can accommodate primary animal information needs through World book kids and Gale Elementary.
Thank you
