TEACHER TALKS
Meet Ms. Rahman!
College: My journey in education began at the University of Dhaka, where I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Bengali language and literature, along with a B.Ed. degree. Currently, I am continuing my academic path at Saint Joseph’s University, pursuing a Master’s degree in Special Education. Education has always been an important part of my life, and I take pride in continuing to grow both professionally and personally.
Years Teaching: I have approximately 13 years of teaching experience in Bangladesh. After moving to the United States, I worked as a substitute teacher at Upper Darby High School for one year. I am now working at Stonehurst Hills Elementary School as a learning support teacher, where I have been teaching for about a year. My role allows me to support students at the elementary level and help them succeed academically and socially.
About Me: Outside of my professional life, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places and cultures. I have visited around 20 countries and many states across the United States, which has broadened my perspective and enriched my experiences. I am also a proud parent of three children. My oldest daughter has completed her bachelor’s degree and is preparing for the DAT to attend dental school. My son, who is a junior council member, will graduate from high school this year, and my youngest daughter will graduate from elementary school. I deeply value spending time with my family. In addition, I enjoy volunteering in my community and tutoring students who need extra academic support, as giving back is very important to me.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
MENTAL HEALTH MONTHLY
Happy March, Stonehurst Family! My name is Mrs. Sanders and I am the School Social Worker at Stonehurst. This is the Mental Health Monthly section of the newsletter. The goal of the section is to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and provide quick tips, information, and resources related to mental and behavioral health. I look forward to promoting and supporting the mental health of the Stonehurst community. Please remember that this content is for informational purposes only and she should not be considered a substitute for professional advice or consultation with mental health professionals. If you need help finding mental health professionals in your community, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. This month’s topic is Self Esteem!

CLASSROOM CHRONICLES
Mrs. Murray had Ms. Hughes's 3rd grade class join her students for some partner reading!
3rd graders read stories to 1st grade and discussed what happened in the story.
Students in Mrs. Murray’s class are exploring how wind is powerful. We read the story
“Wild is the Wind”, and sculpted with play doh to show how wind shapes the earth.
Students in Mrs. Andrews’ class participated in an engaging new brain break activity,
using pool noodles as drums to play along with a variety of fun and energetic songs.
Third grade students in Ms. Borrelli's class made rainbows for St.Patrick’s Day.
Students in Ms. Borrelli's third grade class paired with
Mrs. McNelis's first grade buddies to partner read.
Fifth grade went to the Art Museum
Fifth graders Ava Williams and Emmanuel Awili were our student
administrators for the day, replacing Mr. Chisholm and Dr. Patrick.
They went around the school to introduce themselves to each class.
This month, our Bilingual buddies met and read a part of The Cat in the Hat to celebrate Read Across America. The bilingual buddies learned about Dr. Seuss and how he uses silly rhyming words in his books. Bilingual Buddies and newcomer students wrote a silly poem using rhyming words about places they like to read. Buddies and newcomer students read their poems together then shared their creative poems with other pairs of students.
LOOKING FORWARD...
