We had a packed house on Friday for our first Family Workshop of the year! Thank you to all the families that were able to make it out. We hope you learned a little more about the mathematics happening at Jones and were inspired by seeing our mathematicians in action! If you missed it, the slide deck from Principal Buell's presentation is attached below. Our next Family Workshop will be December 11th!

The holidays are just around the corner, which means it’s time to stock up on everyone’s favorite Julian Pies! Pie sales are officially underway, so order now and have delicious pies ready to share with family and friends during the holiday season! Check out the flyer below!

The planning for our annual Jones Fall Festival has been in full swing and we can’t wait to celebrate with our Dolphin community! This is such a special Jones tradition and we need our families’ help to make it a success.

Hello Jones Families!

Over the past few weeks, our students have been diving into some important Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons focused on bullying prevention and building a supportive school community. During our time together, we explored the difference between a bystander (someone who sees bullying happen and does nothing) and an upstander (someone who takes action against bullying). We had honest discussions about how taking a stand can feel intimidating, which is why we learned that being an upstander is not "one size fits all."

Depending on the situation and how safe students feel, they can choose from four different upstanding options: 1) Be a Buddy: Showing kindness and being a friend to the person being targeted so they know they are not alone; 2) Interrupt: Creating a distraction or giving the targeted friend a reason to walk away from the situation; 3) Speak Out: Using courage to directly name what is happening and show that meanness is not welcome at our school; 4) Tell Someone: Reaching out to a trusted adult right away if anyone is in danger of being hurt.

We also talked about the difference between tattling and telling. Students learned that reaching out to an adult to keep someone safe is never tattling, rather it is being a caring upstander! To put these skills into practice, classes read through real-life scenarios together and talked about which strategy they would feel most comfortable using. I encourage you to practice different scenarios with your child(ren) and ask them which upstander option they would choose to keep the conversation going at home!

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school a No Place For Hate, safe, kind, and welcoming place for everyone :)

~Mrs. Rebelo-Vu

Bullying Prevention Bullying Prevention

Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!

Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.

Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.

Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:

  • Choose a cozy time and space to read together

  • Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)

  • Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension

  • Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby

The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
