September Parent Conferences

During the month of September, teachers will be reaching out to you to schedule Fall parent conferences. Our goal is to meet with 100% of our families for conferences. This is an opportunity for the teacher to share with you specific information about your child (strengths, growth areas, goals, etc.).

Here are some questions you can ask your child's teacher(s) during a conference:

  • Name the top skills you hope students will walk away with this year. How can I help them be developed at home?
  • What questions would you recommend I ask my child on a daily basis about what is happening at school or in your class?
  • What can I do to support you/the school as we work as a team for my child’s growth this year?
  • What can I do at home to keep academic and behavior expectations on track?
  • How can I best stay on top of what is happening at school? In the classroom?

Counselors' Corner

From Ms. Edwards & Ms. Whatley:

Over the next two weeks, the Mills counselors will begin Classroom Guidance lessons for all grades. The week of August 29 we will visit with grades 3, 4, and 5. The week of September 6 we will visit grades PK, K, 1,2. Lessons will be done on a biweekly basis.

Themes to be covered at various levels are:

  • Self awareness
  • Building positives relationships with an emphasis on kindness
  • Self regulation

Also, we are excited that the Mills Fifth Grade Safety Patrol is already up and running! We want to thank these students and their families for their dedication and time commitment to keep all mountain lions safe and secure during drop-off and dismissal. Your assistance is also greatly appreciated as you support our students’ growth with this leadership opportunity. By the end of September, all 5th grade students will participate in one of our signature leadership programs.
