From the Principal's Desk: Focusing on Attendance
Dear Roosevelt Elementary Families,
Happy November! I want to take a moment to discuss one of the most critical factors in your child's academic success: consistent school attendance. November brings unique challenges with seasonal illnesses and the anticipation of upcoming holiday breaks, but attending school every day and on-time is still important.
A Heartfelt Thank You for Conference Participation
Before diving into our attendance focus, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the overwhelming participation in our fall parent-teacher conferences held October 27th-30th. It was wonderful to connect with families and have the opportunity to meet to discuss your students and their progress.
Why Every Day Matters
Please remember that school begins at 8:45 each morning, if a student arrives later than this they are considered tardy. Please have your child to school by 8:45 each day!
Research shows that regular attendance is the foundation of academic achievement. Students who attend school regularly develop stronger reading skills, build better relationships with peers and teachers, and establish positive learning habits that serve them throughout their educational journey. Even in elementary school, missing just two days per month can put students at risk of falling behind academically.
Supporting Your Child's Attendance Success
Creating consistent morning routines and preparing for seasonal challenges can make a significant difference in your child's ability to attend school regularly. Start each school day with a predictable routine that includes adequate sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and time to gather school materials without rushing. As temperatures drop and daylight hours shorten, consider adjusting bedtimes earlier to ensure your child gets sufficient rest. Keep backup clothing and supplies ready for unexpected weather changes, and establish clear expectations about when a child should stay home due to illness versus minor discomfort.
Resources and Support Available
We recognize that some families face barriers to consistent attendance, and we're here to help address these challenges together. If your child is experiencing anxiety about school or reluctance to attend, our counseling team offers strategies and interventions to help students feel more comfortable and engaged. Additionally, our office can work with families to develop attendance improvement plans when patterns of absence become concerning.
Looking ahead to December, please remember that learning continues right up until winter break begins on December 20th. Every instructional day matters, and your partnership in ensuring regular attendance makes all the difference in your child's educational success.
Have a wonderful November, Bears, and do not hesitate to reach out to our office if you have any questions.
Sincerely, Ms. Miller
Principal

SAFETY & PARKING LOT INFORMATION
Safety Reminders:
Please remember that stopping is only allowed along the inside curb in the parking lot (front of school and along curb next to swing sets). Please pull as close to the fence (north of the parking lot, along 16th) as possible to make room for the cars pulling in behind you. Remain is your vehicle when stopped to pick up students. We will make sure students safely get to vehicles. Please avoid letting students in or out of your vehicle on the parking lot side of the vehicle. Make sure to use the crosswalk when crossing the parking lot.
There is no parking along the curved inside curbs of the parking lot (they are painted yellow).
If you need a parking stall, continue to loop through the drive through lane until one opens up.
Thank you for your assistance in keeping Roosevelt students safe.
Please note: We ask that parents avoid entering the gym during breakfast for safety reasons. Please drop students off in the foyer.
