Message from the Superintendent
Sunny skies and warm temperatures make me happy. But the rain is a welcome relief from the poor air quality, especially for those impacted directly by the terrible fires causing our hazy skies. Many in our community have been in evacuation zones before. Our hearts go to those experiencing it now.
Having to cancel activities is a difficult decision because we know how much our students look forward to special field trips, thrilling contests, and outdoor recess! I appreciate our community’s understanding and our administrators and staff working swiftly to reschedule as many events as possible. I have the pleasure of watching my son do what he loves as a student-athlete at the College of Mines in Colorado, and I look forward to this spring when my daughter plays for her high school team. Like you, I cherish these moments for our children.
We are nearing the end of our fall academic term and athletic season, and many are bidding for chances for scholarships, districts, and state. Please join me in showing gratitude for all of the teachers, coaches, staff, and volunteers who make these memories possible and work alongside our students to help them thrive in school and life. Go team!
Bond Advisory Committee Members Needed
The Bond Accountability Committee (BAC) and Long Range Facility Planning (LRFP) Committee are seeking parents/guardians and community residents to serve on the volunteer advisory committees.
BAC is charged with monitoring the planning and progress of the district’s capital bond projects relative to voter-approved work scope, schedule, and budget objectives. The committee needs citizens with experience in building design, construction, and construction financing, law, contracting, budgeting, and/or auditing.
LRFP works with district staff to analyze facility needs and make recommendations to the School Board. The committee needs citizens interested in conducting community outreach to parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members and developing recommendations that inform the capital bond program approved by Lake Oswego voters.
Find more information on the capital bond program on the district and bond websites.
Please submit an application by November 11 if interested in serving on one of these two committees.

Dyslexia Awareness: Assistive Technology
Userway is Lake Oswego School District’s primary accessibility tool. When you see this graphic (or “widget”) on our district webpages, click on it to view a variety of accessibility tools, e.g., keyboard navigation, screen reader, pause animations, text spacing, or color options. You can add this tool to your own computer at WCAG 2.1 AA Website Accessibility - Accessible Websites with UserWay | UserWay. Userway does not store information on users and is COPPA, FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, and ADA compliant.
Technology is changing and improving the school experience for students with dyslexia. Text-to-speech and speech-to-text software, calculators, and note-taking apps are common examples of “assistive technology”. Many of us enjoy audiobooks for pleasure reading, but audiobooks also can serve as a vital piece of assistive technology for those with learning differences such as dyslexia.
With audiobooks everyone can acquire new vocabulary, expand their knowledge and love of books, and enjoy complex or intriguing storylines. Because dyslexics have great listening comprehension, audiobooks enable independent access to the school curriculum through “ear-reading” of complex or voluminous textbooks and novels.
The Lake Oswego Public Library has many audiobook services here:
