Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
June 5, 2026
Lutherville Families,
It's been a fabulous few weeks of culminating activities and traditions at Lutherville! We had a wonderful spring concert, two fabulous sports days, a week of fun picnics, and a celebratory growth parade and student performances today! Phew! What a great time to be a Leopard.
Additionally, we are celebrating some of the data we've gotten back from our composting. This year we've collected 13.75 TONS of food waste for compost, meaning Lutherville Lab has helped avoid 0.47 Metric Tons of Methane from entering the atmosphere. Simply by being intentional with our food waste in the cafeteria. Way to go, Leopards!
As we head into the final 7 days of the school year, we want all our Leopards to FINISH STRONG by attending school every day. Especially for our Leopards approaching 18 absences (excused or unexcused), which would count against our school rating on the State Report Card, we hope to see all our lovely leopards every single day through June 16th!
Finally, we received the notice attached below to share with families about lead testing in our school. Please view the notice attached below.
Have a great weekend, Leopard families!
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

5th Grade trip to Philadelphia
Kudos to our 5th grade students who did an excellent job on their field trip to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Gratitude to the entire 5th grade team, and Mrs. Feltman in particular for leading the planning and logistics to make the trip possible.
Happy Retirement to Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Gillispie!
Staff past and present gathered Thursday evening to honor the incredible careers of two pillars Lutherville Lab -- Reading Specialist Judy Henderson and Special Educator Denise Gillispie
A letter from Mrs. Henderson
Dear Lutherville Community,
After 38 years in education, including 28 wonderful years as the reading specialist at Lutherville Lab, I have decided to retire at the end of this school year.
It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve the students, families, and staff of Lutherville. Over the years, I have taught in 16 classrooms and worked with thousands of students, each leaving a lasting impact on me. Lutherville is truly a family, and there is simply no other school quite like it. Our staff is exceptional, our community is exceptional, and our students are exceptional. I am incredibly proud of all we have accomplished together.
Education has changed tremendously throughout my career, and I have genuinely enjoyed growing alongside those changes. New curricula, assessments, expectations, and challenges continually kept me learning, adapting, and loving what I do. Supporting teachers, students, and administrators through an ever-changing educational landscape has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
Lutherville also holds a special place in my heart because my own daughter attended school here. Even today, years after leaving in 2007, she still talks about many of her teachers as her “second moms.” When we reflect on what made Lutherville so meaningful to her, it always comes back to the people in this building and the genuine love and care they show their students every single day. There truly is nothing better.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child’s elementary school journey. I will forever cherish the memories, relationships, and experiences I have gained throughout my time here.
As I begin this next chapter, I look forward to slowing down a bit, spending more time with family and friends, reading books that are not curriculum-related, and finally getting to my long list of “when I have time” projects. While I will deeply miss the students, the staff, and the daily challenges of the job, I will not miss the 5:30 a.m. alarms or the daily traffic headaches.
Please continue to encourage your children to read every day. I hope each child discovers that special book or series that sparks a lifelong love of reading.
I wish all of you the very best in the years ahead, and I look forward to seeing all the amazing things our Leopards will continue to accomplish.
With gratitude,
Judy Henderson
Growth Parade!
Each year we close with a celebration of how we've grown this school year. Each student reflects on their academic and/or social skills and where they feel pride. This year we also enjoyed performances from Steel Drum Band, Dance Club, and 3rd Grade Chorus.
SY 2026-2027 School Supplies
We are pleased to share that we are again working as a community to collectively supply all Lutherville Leopards for the 2026-2027 school year! Here are the basics. More background and details are in the attached letter:
- The target amount remains $40.00 per student. Though it is a time of inflation, we are able to reuse some supplies (scissors, bins) and teachers have been discerning to trim where possible to keep this figure stable.
- Starting now, families can deliver contributions in cash or check (made out to "Lutherville Lab PTA") to school for the PTA to collect. A credit card option will become available July 1st.
- For families in a financial position to generously cover a classmate/neighbor unable to meet the target amount, giving above $40.00 is accepted with gratitude.
