GISH GLIMPSE
November 2026
Dear Warrior Families,
Another exciting month has passed, and we are looking forward to November. It’s clear the shift from fall to winter has begun. The cold air encourages us to walk a little quicker, and we are enjoying our coffee or tea a little longer.
Thank you to you all for another amazing month. Our students did well out in the community for our annual Rake and Run a couple of weeks ago, which is a great way for us to connect and give back to Akinsdale’s residents. Many clubs are up and running within the school, and students are enjoying connecting with their classmates!
I wanted to highlight one of the many amazing things about working in a K-9 school. The other day, I had the pleasure of watching our Gr. 9 students working with our Gr. 1 students during our daily Connect period. The mission was to teach the young students how to tie their shoes! It was amazing to watch, and when the students tied their shoes three times in a row, they got a certificate! The Gr. 1 students were beaming and all waiting to show me (and their older buddies) how they did! The humbling thing was that the Gr. 9 students were just as proud to be working with their little partners.
Just some friendly reminders,
We’ve had a few reports of driveways being blocked by our parents. In some cases, parents leave their car in front of a driveway while taking their child into the school, blocking the resident. Please ensure you are finding parking in other locations.
Please ensure you make arrangements to have your children picked up promptly after school. We do not have supervision after 3:25 p.m., and students are making it difficult for our front office staff to complete their tasks after school.
We will be going outside for recess, so please monitor the weather and ensure your children are dressed for the weather. Our cut-off is -20 degrees Celsius.
Thank you, everyone, for your help! I look forward to having families in our building for Parent-Teacher Interviews. Please connect with your child’s teacher if you require support with the PTI schedule. The front office is also happy to help!
Take care, everyone, and feel free to connect with me if you have any questions or concerns.
Mr. Harrison

Life at Gish
Annual Rake & Run
We understand that living near the school can be difficult at times with heavier traffic and activity. We try to give back to our community a few times a year - Rake and Run is one random act of kindness we do annually. Houses that border our school and those on Akins Drive are selected. Teachers then sign up for a group of 3 to 4 houses to take their students to go and rake up the leaves. This is a small and fun way that we can show our appreciation to the community. Many hands make for light work!
Grade 9 Riverwatch
Our Grade 9 students enjoyed a great day on the North Saskatchewan River with the Riverwatch program! Through rafting and water quality testing, students explored the local ecosystem and discovered ways to help protect our environment. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn through hands-on experiences while building teamwork and enjoying the outdoors!
Grade 1/2 split doing litter pick up for Art. It’s our TRASH ART project, telling everyone to heal the world and pick up the litter.
2F had an in class field trip where students explored Matter, and investigated the question: how can suitability of materials be determined for specific purposes?
Grade three coding club had fun learning to code commands for Dash Robots!
This year our grade 5s and Grade 9s are teaming up to pilot the "Be An Upstander," program. Led by Mrs. Schneider and Mr. Moric, the groups meet weekly to discuss human rights issues and create fun and interactive projects! Stay tuned for more information about our Upstanders' Fair in the spring.
