Principal's Post Principal's Post

What a great first week here at DKHS. We are working through the normal schedule adjustments that are a bit magnified this year by an increase in roughly 35 new students. It is a good issue to deal with and I’m grateful for the patience our staff and students are showing, We are going to find some relief as we will be hiring another teacher to help fill in those gaps. In the meantime, your continued cooperation is appreciated.

I’m so excited and honored to take on this new role as Principal here at the High School and after 32 years at Delton it is giving me another view of the many things that make this place special. Attached are some pictures of early activities that highlight the sense of community that we have here. We are committed to build on that even more as the year unfolds. A huge thank you to so many people who have helped in this transition. We have too many to mention them all, but huge shout outs to many on our staff who worked so hard on the scheduling process. Teachers who gave extra time creating a wellness space for staff, with a student room to come as our Mental Health Ambassadors continue that project we started last year. Chalk the Walk from our parent group, Community Pep Rally and some early season athletic success have us off to a great start.

We also hosted a new Freshman Bootcamp during orientation. Students and parents received general information, were able to ask some questions, and heard from some upperclassmen who shared words of wisdom for success at the high school. We had some band members come and teach the fight song and closed things out with a frozen tee-shirt game. Note to self -Not so much water in the tees next time.

SCHOLARSHIOP OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIOP OPPORTUNITY

For more than 25 years, we have organized high school students into a highly effective speakers’ bureau with the goal of educating preschool and elementary school-aged children on a variety of topics, including drug and alcohol abuse, child abuse, “stranger danger,” bullying and peer pressure, and healthy habits and nutrition.

Through Moose KidsTalks presentations, participants in the program have reached an audience more than 750,000 children throughout North America. Students also have a chance to compete for $30,000 in college scholarship money that is awarded annually through this program.

The Delton Lodge is hosting a training session on Sunday September 8 at 10am. There is absolutely no cost involved to any of the students. This is an amazing opportunity for these kids to earn scholarship money. Even if they don't win the big money paid out nationally, they can easily earn $1000 in scholarship money paid by the Michigan Moose Association.
