Superintendent News
Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95
A Message from Dr. Kelley Gallt
April 29, 2023
Dear District 95 Families,
As April rolled in with snow and a few days that teased us with warmth and sun, District 95 was very busy providing incredible opportunities for students. April and May are some of the busiest months during the school year. For example, the high school prepared students to find success on future Advanced Placement and SAT tests, showcased art at the NSC Art Show, participated in the Celebrating High School Innovators Pitch Competition (see article below), prepared for the Frozen production (see article below), and at all three levels there are many concerts, celebrations, athletic competitions, and much, much more.
It is so wonderful to see our district – and especially our students – fully engaged in a wide range of activities and opportunities that allow them to expand and explore their personal interests. This truly demonstrates the full range of a vibrant learning community such as we have here in Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kelley Gallt
Superintendent

We are pleased to welcome our new Board members and also would like to take this opportunity to thank two Board members who chose not to run for re-election, Mr. Marty Cupples and Mr. Chris Ketcham. Celebrating High School Innovators - Knock Knock
Celebrating High School Innovators
During the "Celebrating High School Innovators" event, young creative minds from across the country showcased their innovative projects, with a panel of expert judges evaluating submissions based on originality, feasibility, and potential impact. Knock Knock, a promising startup within our high school ACCELerator program (the second year class of the INCubator program where students continue to launch and market their business venture), emerged as one of the top teams.
Knock Knock's innovative product, an automated door closer, is designed to improve daily life by offering a seamless and secure solution for door closing. The dedicated team behind Knock Knock demonstrated, not only their creativity, but also the feasibility and potential positive impact of their product.
As a result of their hard work and commitment to innovation, Knock Knock finished in the TOP 5, and was awarded a $1,000 cash prize. This funding will help support the continued development and implementation of their automated door closer, bringing this valuable solution one step closer to market. We are proud of Knock Knock's achievements and look forward to witnessing their ongoing success. Congratulations to these team members:
- Frank Mrozicki: Co-Founder and Owner, Chief Marketing Officer
- Shailen Surati: Co-Founder and Owner, Chief Operating Officer
- Rithvik Tripuraneni: Co-Founder and Owner, Chief Technology Officer
Frozen!!
Frozen at Lake Zurich High School
Certainly a big highlight for District 95 this week is the much anticipated production of Frozen at LZHS. With a cast that incorporates students from across the district, this production is truly emblematic of what a community can do when working together. As you may know, all six shows sold out in record time. Fortunately, the Theatre Department was able to obtain permission from Disney to sell streaming access to the Saturday and Sunday matinee performances, available on our website here: https://lzhs.lz95.org/our-school/lzhs-theatre.
Please enjoy these photos from our incredibly talented cast and crew, and if you missed it here is a link to some of the ABC7 media coverage: https://abc7chicago.com/lake-zurich-il-frozen-disney-elsa/13189391/

A Day in the Class Photos
A Day in the Class of....Ms. Fuller, Isaac Fox
In this feature article, “A Day in the Class of…”, we highlight the Superintendent as a member of a classroom for one full period. A different school and class are highlighted each month, allowing readers a view into the classroom from a new perspective!. This lesson demonstrated Responsive and Authentic Instruction (relating to the District 95 Instruction Learning Model ).
Have you ever heard of an ostinato? I was able to learn all about ostinatos alongside students at Isaac Fox. An ostinato is a continually repeated musical phrase or rhythm. We practiced ostinatos in so many ways, but consistently were able to use the same lyrics…
2, 4, 6, 8
Meet me at the garden gate.
If I’m late, please don’t wait.
2, 4, 6, 8
LATE, DON’T BE LATE
We practiced with collective clapping and chanting, then we were able to move around a circle that was outlined with floor circle mats. I was really impressed during this part of the lesson, as we were having so much fun! Then, Ms. Fuller encouraged students to be really creative… while a few of us tried out the mallets creating their own music, the rest of us traveled around the circle chanting the lyrics above. Then, as if we were not having enough fun, we were introduced to a really amazing clapping game. I was able to meet and work with several students as we changed partners many times throughout the activity. The ostinato lesson was absolutely effective as Ms. Fuller provided an authentic learning opportunity while also being responsive to our needs… activities became progressively more challenging over time. However, most impressive was Ms. Fuller’s incorporation of risk-taking and student recognition of each other in positive regards. The last clapping activity encouraged all students to share compliments about their partner, and we were all very eager to share genuine, positive remarks! What a great time!
I have such great admiration for all that our music educators do to support student learning across the continuum and content areas! Well done!
