Wolverine Weekly Updates
Week of May 5 - 9
A Message from Mrs. Ushery
Greetings Wynbrooke Family,
What a busy and productive week we’ve had! I am so proud of how the entire school handled testing. Our students in grades 3-5 gave their best effort on both Math sections, showing focus and determination. Our K-2 students were incredibly respectful—staying quiet in the hallways and bathrooms to support their peers during testing. We also had excellent test participation—thank you for ensuring your children were present, prepared, and ready to do their best. We successfully made it through another week and our first two days of testing! As we prepare for the ELA section of the test, please encourage your scholars to use this weekend to keep their brains active. Ensure your scholars continue to read every day and challenge them to write about what they’ve read.
Testing continues next week: Grades 3 and 4 will take the ELA test on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while Grade 5 will take the ELA and Science test from Tuesday through Friday. We need all students present each day, with a good breakfast and in their seats by 7:45 a.m. Ready students are successful students! Please also remind your child to start each day with our affirmation: "I AM DISTINGUISHED. I AM READY. I WILL EXCEL."
In addition to testing, we had an unforgettable D.A.P. Father-Son Experience this week. It was truly inspiring, and we’re so grateful to Dr. Boulware for leading this powerful and meaningful initiative.
Now that May is here, we look forward to celebrating our scholars with exciting events like field days and special recognitions.
Have a wonderful weekend!
🔹 Attendance Reminder:
We need your support in ensuring your child arrives at school on time. Students can be dropped off between 7:00 - 7:45 AM and are considered tardy at 7:46 AM. To help ease morning traffic, we encourage families to arrive early.
🔹 Morning Car Rider Drop-Off Reminder:
Morning car rider drop-off ends at 7:45 AM. If you arrive after this time, you must park and walk your child inside to sign them in for school. Let's work together to ensure our scholars start their day on time and ready to succeed!
🔹 Parent Volunteer Hours:
We are closing out the school year with only a few volunteer opportunities left! if you have not completed your required 16 parent volunteer hours, please sign up for volunteer opportunities below!
Thank you for your continued support in making Wynbrooke the BEST school in the DeKalb County School District!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Proud to be your principal,

With a Grateful Heart: Thank You for a Memorable Principal’s Day
Wow! My heart is so full! Thank you to all the students, parents, teachers, and staff for the outpouring of love you showed me on my very first Principal’s Day. Greetings Wynbrooke Families!
By now each family that have NOT completed their volunteer hours should have received an email from me letting you know how many hours have been completed and other options to get your hours satisfied before the deadline. Remember you are required to complete 8 volunteer hours for each semester for a total of 16 to be completed on or before May 16, 2025. That is the absolute last day to complete your hours. For every $10 that is spent, you will earn 1 volunteer hour, or the time spent assisting during school events can also count towards your hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at Jaumekia_M_Caver@dekalbschoolsga.org
Thank you again for all you do to support our school it is very much appreciated!

Media Center Updates
From the desk of Ms. Jelks, Media Specialist
Dear Parents,
Reading opens the door to new worlds, sparks creativity, and keeps our minds engaged even while we rest. We encourage all students to make reading a daily habit and take advantage of the wonderful opportunities available through Beanstack!
Students, we invite you to track your reading on Beanstack to stay motivated and monitor your progress over time. By logging in through Clever, you can record the books you read each day, participate in monthly reading challenges, and even earn badges and rewards! We encourage students of all grade levels to read independently for at least 20 minutes each day.
Parents, you play a vital role in fostering a love for reading. You can support your child’s reading journey by setting aside dedicated reading time, engaging in discussions about books, or making visits to your local library a part of your routine.
We look forward to hearing about the amazing books your children discover!
Happy Reading!
Ms. Ashlee Jelks

Parent Resources: GA Milestones
If you are looking for resources to help your student prepare for the Georgia Milestones, please visit:https://gadoe.org/assessment-accountability/georgia-milestones/
You will find parent information flyers, printable study resource guides, links to practice sites, and more...
Also work with your scholar to complete the Experience Online Testing Georgia practice site lets students see what testing online is like. Parents and educators are welcome to try it too. The items on the demonstration tests are general and are organized by grade or course in the content areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The guides and demonstration tests are not graded, so have fun!
The items do not necessarily represent the specific grade-level content that students learn daily in their classrooms. The primary purpose is to let students experience, firsthand, the functionality of the online testing platform. The sample tests are not graded.
