Principal's Post
I hope this note finds you well. All my life the school year always seemed to just fly by, but this year feels to me like it is on a different pace. I can’t believe we are at the end of September already. I continue to be so impressed with the quality of young people we get to work with here at Delton. I am proud of the character, service, and work ethics our kids bring with them each day. Yes, we have some hiccups from time to time but overall, our student body is stepping up to the challenges from our teachers to raise the bar.
I’m pleased to announce that Brooks Smith has been hired to help fill the schedule adjustment brought on by Mr. Behnke’s departure last week. Mrs. McFanin is back on staff after coming out of retirement, so we are in good hands. Speaking of Mrs. McFanin, she will be hosting our Success Center starting next week. These will be
Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 and is a great place to get some extra help, finish assignments, and complete any missing labs or projects. Kids can just show up for extra help and do not need to stay the entire time.
Our Mental Health Ambassadors continue their work in the Student Wellness Room we are creating. They met this week with PIE who has agreed to help with this project in any way possible. I believe some of our kids will be participating in the Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Walk this Sunday 9/29 from 1-3 that has been organized by The Shack. Feel free to join them in raising awareness about this critical issue.
Next week is Homecoming here at DK Schools. I want to give a shout out to Ms. Dinda our Student Council Advisor. This will be her last Homecoming here at DKHS after 35 years of leading the activities, assembly, and the half time coronation. Thanks Janis, we all appreciate your efforts over the years. There are details of dress up days and other activities posted in this bulletin. We hope to see you at the parade and at the game.
Speaking of Homecoming, I had the privilege of hosting the DKHS Class of 1979 for a tour of our newer facilities last Friday. Always nice to hear alumni rave about what they see happening in our school community.
This week I’m starting a new weekly shout out of a student or a group of students who are living out our DO A JOB motto. Kids who are taking action to make a change and improve their situation and to serve our school will be highlighted here as one of my Hogie’s Heroes. This week’s Hogie’s Hero is Caitlyn Helms. Caitlyn is a sophomore who has made dramatic improvement in her grades and has become a real leader in our halls. She is a member of our yearbook class and has been a primary photographer at multiple athletic events. A couple of her recent pictures are included here. Caitlyn, we are proud of you. Thanks for helping make DKHS a better place, and to improve your own situation as you strive for success.
Student Council
There will be a Student Council Meeting Thursday, Oct 3, at 7:30 am in MIss Dinda's Classroom. See you there!

PIE Shoe Drive
We are joining in on the EL/MS Shoe Drive with our PIE group. See the information sheet in today's bulletin. We will have a collection bin here at the high school so check your closets for any clean used shoes that will help those in need.
Success Center
We are starting up Success Center. This is free tutoring and work completion time with Mrs. McFanin. Success Center will be held on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 PM in room 109. You can come and go as you need. This is a great spot to get homework done, finish a lab, and get some extra support. The Success Center will start October 2.
