Peter Pan The Musical Peter Pan The Musical

Amazing KS2 School Play! Amazing KS2 School Play!

We were treated to three wonderful performances of Peter Pan this week from our KS2 children. Year 6 took the lead as members of the Darling Family (including Nana the Dog!), Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Lost Boys, Wild Warriors, Mermaids, Pirates, the villainous Captain Hook and the hapless Mr Smee. The story – told by the narrator, Martha – followed Peter Pan and Wendy’s journey through Neverland. Here they encountered the characters above, along with a group of Year 3 Mer-people who ‘razzle-dazzled’ onto the stage, the powerful Year 4 ‘Wild Warriors’ and the Year 5 scurvy pirate crew!

Well done to Mrs Shawcross and Miss Haslam for their superb directing to produce a great performance from the Year 6 actors. Thank you to Miss Okey for all her help with the scenery and to Elijah our very own ‘props guy’, as well as our KS2 staff for choreographing and arranging the group songs and dances. A final huge well done to the full talented cast of performers! We are currently editing footage from both KS1 and KS2 productions which we hope to share with you soon.

End of Year Message from Mrs Walsh End of Year Message from Mrs Walsh

As we reach the end of another academic year, it is a good time to reflect on all the wonderful things that have taken place since that first day of term back in September 2024. From the residentials in Lindisfarne and London, to the superb Nativity our Year 1 and 2 children presented at the Cathedral at Christmas, to our great Ofsted report in February, to Year 3 and 5 selling sandwiches, T-shirts and bags on Ripon Market, Early Years leading a lovely Mothers’ Day worship, brilliant SATs results from our Year 6s, the amazing performances in the end of year productions and on the stage at the Royal Hall, great trips and visits, and much, much more. What a whirlwind it has been! I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at Ripon Cathedral School and am already excited about the prospect of the new school year and all it may bring. Good luck to all our Year 6 children leaving school and moving on with their education. They have really demonstrated those three core values of Aspiring, Flourishing and Loving throughout their time at Ripon Cathedral School and we look forward to hearing about all their successes in the future. I wish all members of our school community a happy and restful summer break, and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 2nd September.

Superstars of the Term Superstars of the Term

Our final Superstars of the year were awarded during our end of term performances, and recognised seven children who had stood out this term for a range of different reasons. Words that came up on many of the Superstars' messages were 'resilient', 'determined', and 'hard-working'. It is clear that each of the children chosen had demonstrated that important value of 'Aspiring': they have aimed high and worked towards their goals, making superb progress. Well done and congratulations to Leo S, Arjun, Sophie K, Rafi, Lottie, Scarlett B and Joshua W.

Music Opportunities Music Opportunities

We have several peripatetic music teachers who visit school to offer instrumental lessons (chargeable to parents). Some of the teachers are private tutors, others are provided by North Yorkshire Music Services (all have enhanced DBS clearance and undergo our safeguarding process). Currently we have teachers for keyboard, brass, woodwind and guitar but it may be possible to source other lessons. Our flute teacher has recently returned from maternity leave and will be able to take on more pupils for both flute and oboe lessons from September. Twenty minute lessons cost £13.

Please email rbingham@riponcathedral.n-yorks.sch.uk if you are interested in further details for any music lessons.

Summer Activities Summer Activities

A one-off newsletter featuring loads of local events was sent separately last Friday. Look out for all the great ideas for things to do with the family over the long break! A few more opportunities that have come in this week are posted below.
