Welcome Back!
As we gear up for another school year, I'm excited to welcome each and every Screamin' Eagle to the nest. Whether you are a returning Sunnycrest student or brand new to our school, we are excited to have you as part of our Sunnycrest community.
For the 2026-2027 school year, we will continue our focus on kindness. We want to ensure that every person who comes through our doors feels seen and accepted, and the best way to do that is to model and practice kindness. It's important to talk with your student about the many ways we can show kindness to others. There are many benefits to choosing behaviors that promote kindness. Moods are improved and the sense of community is increased. Our goal is for kindness to spread across our campus so everyone can be the best version of themselves each and every day.
The first day of school for our students in grades 1-5 is September 2nd. During this week, our kindergarten teachers will be hosting family connection meetings. Once kindergarten students are placed in a classroom, the teacher will reach out to set up a conference. This is a wonderful way to learn more about kindergarten and to begin building a relationship with your classroom teacher. Our kindergarten students will begin school on September 8th.
On behalf of the staff at Sunnycrest, I want to extend a warm welcome. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year.
Sincerely,
Mikey Trexel, proud principal
Classroom Assignment
We are actively working to update and finalize class lists. Classroom assignment will go live on Friday, August 28th and you are able to access that information through the parent portal.
For information regarding the parent portal and how to access it, please refer to our district website. https://www.lkstevens.wednet.edu/our-services/skyward-qmlativ-family-access
At back to school night, staff will have lists and be able to direct families to their student's classroom as needed.
Back to School Night
The back to school night is on September 1st from 4:00-5:30 for grades 1-5 only. Families are welcome to bring their student's supplies and leave them in the classroom. Kindergarten families will have WA Kids conferences during the week of September 2nd and families will have time to drop off supplies and meet their teacher at that conference. Due to our size, families are asked to attend during their assigned time. The schedule is as follows:
- Students with last names beginning with (A-M) 4:00-4:40
- Students with last names beginning with (N-Z) 4:50-5:30
Parking is a challenge at Sunnycrest due to the size of our enrollment and the size of our parking lot. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful partner in the Assembly of God Church down the street. There is parking in the front lot and in the bus loop for this event. If you are unable to find parking on our campus, please feel free to park at the church and walk to Sunnycrest. The access to the church lot is limited to the gravel lot only. Please be respectful of this request, as there is a daycare on their site that will still be in session when our open house begins. Please also be mindful of your speed in their lot, as there are often families and children crossing from one building to the other.
Playground Updates
Cyclone
Rocker
Our new playground equipment has been fully installed. We are excited to add a climbing structure more suited for our primary students, as well as some musical instruments, a cyclone, a rocker, and an additional climber. As we continue to grow it is amazing to have a playground that will support this growth. A huge shoutout to our PTA who helped to fund the second phase of our playground project.

Cell Phones & Smartwatches
Many students today have cell phones and/or Apple watches. Student use of cellular phones is not allowed at Sunnycrest during the instructional day. If students carry a cell phone and/or Apple watch, the phone/watch must be turned off and be out of sight at all times throughout the school day. There is a cell phone permission form that families must complete in order for students to have cell phones on campus. If a student is found using a cell phone during the instructional day, a verbal warning will be given. On the second infraction, the phone will be placed in the office for parent pick up. Taking pictures or filming others at school is strictly prohibited for privacy reasons.
