Dear HES Caregivers,

Welcome back! Our Sharks returned from vacation mostly healthy, refreshed, and excited to reconnect with their classmates and friends. It’s always heartwarming to see their enthusiasm for being back together. As a bonus, we all got to enjoy a touch of spring-like weather!

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive PTO at HES! Thanks to their generosity, we are thrilled to welcome local children's author Melissa Stewart to our school on April 7. She will be presenting to all K-4 students, sharing insights from her book, Meet the Mini-Mammals: A Night at the Natural History Museum, beautifully illustrated by Massachusetts resident and Caldecott Honoree, Brian Lies.

During her visit, Ms. Stewart will also be autographing books. If you’d like to purchase a copy of one of her picture books to have signed, please fill out this order form. All orders must be submitted by March 7.

Thank you for your continued support in making learning exciting and engaging for our students!

Warmly,

Christie

Notes from the Health Room Notes from the Health Room

Our students appear to have come back from February break rested and healthier than before. There are many reasons to take breaks away and getting rid of the cycle of illness is one. We are hoping that we have made it through the worst of the winter illnesses and can healthily move into Spring!

Polished Dental will be coming on March 31 and April 1. This is a great service provided to all of our students who are not seen regularly by an outside dentist. You will not be charged for this visit, but if you have dental insurance it will be billed. If you signed your child up for this service in the fall your child will be seen when they come. If you did not sign up your child, but would like to, please let me know at HES_nurse@monomoy.edu and we will send home a form for you to fill out. If you need it in a different language, please let me know.

All 4th grade students are required to have a physical exam on file in the nurse's office before they move on to middle school. The physical needs to have been performed within the previous year (August of 2024 or later). If your child has had a physical since August 2024, please send it in to us as soon as possible. You can either send a copy in their backpacks, email it to hes_nurse@monomoy.edu, or fax it to us. Our fax number is 1-508-744-6387. If you do not have a copy, please have your pediatrician fax a copy to us as soon as possible. If your child has not had a physical yet this school year, please remember to ask your pediatrician to fax us a copy at the end of the exam. Currently, most 4th grade students do not have an updated physical exam on file with the school nurse’s office. Thank you for your help in this matter.

All students Pre-K through 3rd grade: please send in a copy of your child’s physical each year to help us keep our records up to date. Please follow the same instructions above under the 4th grade section. Thank you all so much for your help.

Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!
