CSD Weekly Update: February 27 2026

Career and Technical Education Month!
William Tennent High School students have the unique opportunity to gain valuable workforce experience even before they receive their high school diploma! In collaboration with Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT), WTHS students dedicate half of their school day to MBIT, where they immerse themselves in real-world workforce lessons related to their chosen elective. Whether it’s cosmetology or carpentry, these students gain experience, acquire essential credentials, and earn college credits that will significantly enhance their employability after graduation.
We asked WTHS students at MBIT to understand their favorite aspects of attending a career and technical school like MBIT and what they hope to gain from this enriching experience.
McDonald Elementary Food Pantry
Yesterday, McDonald Elementary hosted its highly anticipated food pantry drive-thru, a community initiative aimed at supporting local families. During the event, the school donated a wide variety of essential items, including canned goods, boxed meals, and personal care products such as toiletries. Staff members worked together to organize and distribute the donations efficiently, allowing families to drive through and collect their items safely without leaving their cars. The event not only provided much-needed resources but also fostered a sense of unity and care within the community, highlighting McDonald Elementary’s ongoing commitment to supporting its neighbors.

Student Attendance and Truancy
A new state law, Pennsylvania Act 47 of 2025, has updated the PA Public School Code regarding student attendance and truancy. The Act updates attendance rules, especially for cyber charter schools, by defining how they must track attendance for both live (synchronous) and self-paced (asynchronous) instruction. The law also strengthens truancy procedures, which now include new requirements for notices to parents, mandatory use of a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) for habitually truant students, and a restriction on habitually truant students transferring to a cyber charter school without a judge's approval.
Although Act 47 does not require a change to the Centennial School Board Attendance Policy (CSD School Board Policy 204), this is an ideal opportunity to review important terminology and procedures regarding student attendance.
General Attendance Information:
In CSD, all students must attend school every day unless they have a lawful (excused) reason for being absent. “Truant” or “truancy” is the legal term to describe a student who is absent from school without lawful permission.

National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) March 2 - 6
National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) celebrates the important role a nutritious school breakfast plays in helping students start their day ready to learn, grow, and succeed. This will take place March 2-6, 2026. Breakfast is free to all students. Please join us in celebrating!
From January 1st to March 31st, all shoppers at GIANT, MARTIN’S, and GIANT Heirloom Market stores are invited to round up their bills to the nearest dollar. The funds raised will support Feeding School Kids. Additionally, customers can contribute by converting their CHOICE Rewards Points into donations through the GIANT app.
Following our return to school after the winter holidays, we kindly request our school community to spread the word about the Feeding School Kids initiative to ensure its success. Our objective is to provide support to the children in our district who require the most assistance in accessing nutritious meals and snacks. The funds will be directly allocated to our district’s food organization for their discretion in addressing food insecurity within our school community.
We are thrilled to partner with The GIANT Company in our fight against childhood hunger. Please join me in supporting and advocating for this initiative to ensure that no child in our district experiences hunger at school or at home.
