Reflecting on 2024 Success
We ended the year with Math, ELA, and Science benchmark tests, and we are proud to share that our students showed tremendous growth in ELA! A huge congratulations to our students and staff for their hard work and dedication. 481 students out of 532 without an office referral!
As Zelfyr the Elf reminded us in December:
“The people at Lombard make it magical.”
Thank you for being part of that magic!
Reading Fall to Winter Growth
Our goal at Lombard is 50-60% growth. Both grade levels accomplished our school-wide goal. We will continue to work towards all of our students hitting their typical and/or stretch growth in the Spring.
Zelfyr, the Principal Elf.
Before saying goodbye to 2024, Zelfyr, the elf, kept a watchful eye after Thanksgiving break, hiding in random places around the school. She always had a motivational sign to encourage students to finish the semester strong. Students and staff saw her hiding in the trophy case, doing her homework with a large pencil, lifting weights, sitting in a soccer goal, and many more places.
The Zephyr Spirit
Through Zelfyr’s presence, we were reminded of:
- The power of connections that make our school community strong.
- Kindness shining through in everyday moments.
- The joy of simply letting kids be kids and embracing their unique magic.
As we move forward in 2025, these lessons will continue to guide us in Growing Greatness.
Dec. 17 - "Move over Zelfyr, today is Grinch Day"
Grinch's Apology Card
Dec 20 - Zelfyr and Grinch become friends.
A Magical Holiday Tale: Zelfyr and the Grinch
This past December, our students were part of a memorable story about friendship, growth, and forgiveness, all tied to our character trait of the month: Honesty.
On Grinch Day, December 17, the Grinch caused a bit of chaos, starting with taping Zelfyr the Elf to the wall and claiming the spotlight with a sign that said, "Move over Zelfyr, today is Grinch Day!" While Cindy Lou Who tried her best to spread positivity, even she found it challenging to manage the Grinch’s mischief.
Throughout the week, we reminded students of an important lesson: people can change, and kindness has the power to grow even the smallest hearts.
On Friday, December 20, the Grinch interrupted our assembly in a dramatic moment that had everyone concerned for Zelfyr. But instead of causing trouble, the Grinch had a heartfelt surprise. He presented Zelfyr with a card that revealed his true feelings:
"I am sorry. I was jealous that all the attention was on you, and I just wanted to feel special. Can you forgive me and can we be friends?"
Zelfyr and the Grinch then sang a song together and skipped off as new friends, leaving our students with three meaningful reminders:
- Honesty: It takes courage to admit when we’re wrong.
- Kindness: Small actions can grow even the smallest hearts.
- Forgiveness: True friendship thrives when we choose to forgive.
This magical moment brought joy to everyone and highlighted the power of honesty and understanding, especially during the holiday season.
