Parade of Graduates!
Each year, graduating seniors return to their elementary schools to inspire students and be celebrated by teachers. Students were cheered on by Buel students and staff during their triumphal walk through the hallways and had a chance to play on the playground, read books in the library and play dodgeball with 5th grade students in PE.
Congratulations, Class of 2023!
Newby Principal Named
Vicky Brown, currently assistant principal at Patton Middle School, will become principal of Newby Elementary effective July 1, 2023.

Seal of Biliteracy Celebration
Kudos to the 26 MHS seniors who earned the Oregon Seal of Biliteracy, a recognition of academic rigor and high-level mastery of at least two languages.
The seal is affixed to the student’s diploma and is also noted in the student’s official transcript. The transcript notation may be considered in college admissions and future employment.
Congratulations, seniors!
Junior Rose Festival Parade!
Elementary Learning about Engineering
This year, elementary students learned a bit about engineering from a children's book author and former TV host (PBS Kids’ “Design Squad”) who visited their STEM classrooms to talk about science and a space suit he developed for NASA!
Nate Ball, a friend of MSD teacher Brian Bixler, has visited MSD several times to share his enthusiasm for engineering with our students!
Summer activities for Kids
Mac Parks & Rec and the City Library have a slate of activities scheduled to keep kids busy over the summer.
From movies, concerts and laser tag in the park for older kids to Art in the Park, family picnics and playdates for younger kids, there’s a lot to choose from!
Spring Service Day
Duniway’s spring Service Day took place this week at over 20 locations, including schools, parks, community organizations and more.
The day helps students build a practice of community service. Thank you, Dragons!
Bus Families
To keep our bus routes as efficient as possible, it’s important that we know whether or not your student(s) will ride a bus next year.
If you have not already registered for or declined busing for next year, please fill out the form here.
Next week, district staff will begin calling families who have not replied. Thank you!
Thank you, PTA!
Reminder: Middle School Summer Camps
Once August rolls around, you might be happy to get your current 5th, 6th and 7th grade students out of the house! There’s still time to register for a free summer camp during the first two weeks of August. Lunch is included and transportation to Duniway will be provided for eligible students.
Two sessions of the camps will run Monday - Friday during the weeks of July 31 - August 4 and August 7 - 11 from 9 a.m. until 12:15.
Summer Reading at the Library
Did you know students can lose a lot of their learning during the long, hot days of summer? Luckily, experts say that it doesn’t take much to hold on to the progress they made over the school year.
Participating in a summer reading program can go a long way to preventing the “summer slide.”
Graduation Broadcast
You can also watch it later on the YouTube link.
Oregon Broadband Survey
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is seeking input on families’ access to high-speed broadband. Broadband is an important component to K-12 education, and the survey will help allocate federal funding to provide reliable internet access to families and students.
