The Amplify Caregiver Letters for November will be shared with families via our Parent Resource Newsletter later this week. These letters provide an overview of what texts students will be reading as well as what they will specifically be learning in the unit. There are also conversation starters for families to use in order to promote discussion and continued learning at home. You are encouraged to share the letters as well with your families.

K - 5 Teachers, have you used the Digital Components yet for your lessons? When accessing the units online, you will find many resources available under the Materials section. One resource, Digital Components, is a great place to start when you are looking for extra materials. These resources have been curated into one location for Skills/Lecto and Knowledge/Conocimento for this month's units.

Extended Day Math Alignment Explanation

You may have noticed that the 15 day Extended Day Unit Emphasis might seem out of alignment with your current pacing. It’s not your imagination! In the move to fifteen days for each group, the timing of what was being taught in extended day had to be shifted. In some cases, you’re teaching the prerequisite skills to something that is going to be taught. However, it might not be taught in the next few days, instead students might be working on the skills that will be needed in the upcoming weeks. The priority was given to content that is the most important work of the grade and that has proven to be more challenging for students in the past. For example, in fourth grade, the work on division related to perimeter and area was reduced in the extended day pacing guide in order to ensure that students would have enough time for each group to work on the prerequisite skills for fractions. Similar trade offs were made in almost every grade. We’re still working in the “Accelerate, not Remediate” model. If you have questions about how to incorporate any prerequisite skills that some of your students may need because of the new guide, please reach out to your math coach!
