e-Learning In Naperville 203

Naperville 203 has approval from the DuPage Regional Office of Education and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to utilize e-Learning for emergency days (weather or other emergencies that dictates a school cannot be open for students). The approval process consisted of preparing a plan in collaboration with staff and leaders, holding a public hearing, and notifying our community of the District’s intent to potentially use e-Learning Days in lieu of emergency days. Effective July 1, 2019, Public Act 101-0012 allows school districts statewide to utilize five e-Learning days in lieu of emergency days and maintains flexibility for students to engage in career-connected learning outside of the classroom. The ability to use e-Learning Days helps to maintain the predictability of the school calendar. Please note there may be days that we may choose not to access an e-Learning day and school will just be canceled and made up at the end of the year. Naperville 203 will communicate early, using different modes of communication so all students, families, and guardians are aware of the learning structure during emergency days.

The Naperville 203 e-Learning plan for emergency days consists of ensuring and verifying at least 5 clock hours of learning/school work, as required under Section 10-19.05, for EC-Transition students participating in an e-Learning Day. Naperville 203 will ensure appropriate learning opportunities for students with special needs and that non-electronic materials are made available for students who do not have access to the required technology.

Please follow our normal notification procedures that have been used in the past for snow days or weather emergencies. Communications will be sent early in the morning, all e-Learning materials will be posted on the individual teacher Canvas pages by 9 a.m. on an e-Learning Day. Teachers will be available throughout the day to answer questions and communicate with students as needed. Teachers will not provide live streaming/concurrent instruction or synchronous learning. Instead, students will be given assignments aligned to current learning progression and goals, which can be found on Canvas.

Should your student be absent and not able to participate on an e-Learning Day, parents/guardians should follow normal school attendance procedures and call with notification of student absences by 9 a.m.

Finally, to help our students be ready for the potential use of an e-Learning (emergency) Day, schools and staff will be practicing all processes and procedures with classes during the month of November.

Thank you for your continued support as we implement e-Learning in Naperville 203.
