HALLOWEEN STORIES AND MORE...
The Biggest Pumpkin By Gabriel D.
On a nice fall day in October a man named Brad grew a pumpkin. He was trying to win Sawlington’s Biggest Pumpkin Competition. The day before the competition Wyatt told Brad that he was not going to win because he had the smallest pumpkin in town. Brad woke up and his pumpkin was 8 feet wide and 6 feet tall. He drove to the competition and saw some other big pumpkins. When the judges came to his booth they said, “Wow that pumpkin is big!” Brad was in the top 3. The top 3 were Wyatt, Brad and John. 3rd place Wyatt, 2nd place John and the winner is Brad! Brad got 5 hundred pieces of candy and a first place medal.
Candy Eating Monster! Is it a Dream? By: Zoey Z.
On Halloween morning everyone was getting into their costumes. Ivy and Taylor were getting ready together. When they were finished they met up with Bean. They started to walk to school. On the way they picked up Pumpkin at her house. Those four are the best friends in the whole school. When they got to school everything was normal. Pumpkin found spooky {normal}. Bean got breakfast {normal}. Ivy gave Ms.October a hug {normal} and Taylor got a Dojo point for doing what she was told {normal}. Then Bean noticed Benny was not in his normal spot. She thought someone moved him but no! She walked back to class. Later that day Pumpkin saw Benny through the window on the door. Then there was an alert that he was walking and alive. Windstin was like, “I’m not hiding.” Then Benny saw him and kicked the door down. He said “I see you Winston.” Taylor said you should have hidden. Winston was so scared. Then the security was even scared. “What is happening?” Pumpkin asked. Pumpkin was the youngest in the class and the easiest to scare. Then the weirdest thing happened. A kid took a hat off. It was just a costume. Everyone started to laugh. That was the best Halloween the friends ever had. Ms.October woke up and told her dog,“I’m not going to school today.”
My Day with Mia By Kaylynn D.
One day I went to the mall with my friend Mia Thomas. Mia and I wanted to go to the Squishy store but my sister doesn't care about Squishies. So we did rock, paper, scissors and I won, obviously. So, we went to a couple Squishy stores and I got the Gumdrop Nee Doh at Chill Stop. At first I didn't like it because it was too hard. But, then I liked it because it got softer and softer. Then, we whent to another Squishy store and I saw the Fuzzball Nee Doh and I wanted it so bad. But, I already used all my money. Then, we went to Sephora to look for skincare and then we went home called her
and played Roblox.
My Dream? By Hannah K.
Once upon a time there was a girl named Hannah and she wanted to go on her boat with her little sister named Leah. Hannah got into her sailor’s outfit. They packed a couple of things. Then they set sail. The water was a little choppy and the girls didn’t feel that well so they looked at the water and they saw something big. Something really big, almost like a monster. The girls jumped back in amazement. Leah said, “Was that a monster?” Hannah said straight away, “Yeah Leah like no duh.” Leah rolled her eyes. The girls were going on and on when they suddenly saw some water in the boat. Then they saw more water. Suddenly they realized something was going on. They realized that they were starting to sink. Hannah said, “Are we sinking?” Then Leah finally got her back when she said, “ Well duh Hannah.” Then Hannah started to stress and eat everything they had packed. Leah said, “Girl you’re eating all my food.” Then they saw something pop up out of the bottom of their boat. It was the monster they saw in the water before. The girls screamed. Then the monster popped back in the water and he created a giant hole in the boat. The boat was sinking faster than ever. The bottom of Hannah’s pants were starting to get wet from all the water in the boat. The boat was about to fully sink but when Hannah closed her eyes and then reopened them she was in her bed and Leah was shaking her and telling her to get up. Hannah was so confused but before she could say anything to Leah she had left the room with a smile on her face. When she got up out of bed she realized she was in her sailor’s outfit and her pants were still wet. So was it a dream or not?
My Halloween By : Shane B.
Once upon a time I was trick or treating with my friends around me and my friends' neighborhoods. The first house we went to was old with bricks, when we knocked on the door an old lady with fangs opened the door. She was really creepy but that’s what halloween is all about. So, when we said “trick or treat” then she said, “trick,” which was awkward but then she actually did a trick but it was lame. So, my friends and I just pretended we were amazed. Then, we just left without any candy….sadly!!!
Then we went to a house that looked abandoned on Bardonia Road. When we got closer to the door there were a lot of spider webs, 2 black cats and moss. Eventually we got to the door and when we knocked on the door no one answered the door. Three minutes later someone answered the door. But, this time it was a man.The man looked like he was in his 80’s and this time when we said, “trick or treat,” he gave us candy unlike the lady.
After we left the “abandoned” house I hopped into my friend Brayden's car and then went to his development and trick or treated there while my family went back to my house and my friends went back to their houses.Eventually we got to his neighborhood and started trick or treating. The first few houses we went to were normal.Than we approached a house that had a haunted maze that had people chasing you with chainsaws.I asked my friend Brayden if he wanted to do it with me and he said, “yes!” So then we went into the maze. For the first minute no one was chasing us until one guy with a bloody face jumped out behind a wall and started chasing us.Then we finally escaped the maze, and continued trick or treating. Twenty minutes later…It was getting dark out and we were calling it a night. So Brayden and his mom drove me home. When I got home my mom and Brayden’s mom were talking, so I asked him if he wanted to play in my house until our parents finished talking. We played inside my house for 20 minutes. Half the time we were eating our candy and the other half we played in my basement. Then his mom told him he had to go. We said goodbye and he left. After they left my mom told me I had to go to bed so I did.
HALLOWEEN RECIPES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Banana Ghosts with Peanut Butter Dip
Ingredients
Ghosts:
4 firm, ripe bananas
8 lollipop or ice pop sticks
2 cups white chocolate chips
2 teaspoons coconut oil
24 chocolate chips
Dip:
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup loosely packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (not natural)
1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon coconut oil
Candy spiders, for decorating, optional
Directions
Special equipment:
8 lollipop or ice pop sticks, a toothpick- Start the ghosts: Line a baking sheet with parchment and make room for it in your freezer. Peel the bananas and cut in half crosswise, then lengthwise for 8 pieces total. Insert 1 stick in the short, flat side of each; arrange on the prepared baking sheet and freeze until solid, about 2 hours.
- Meanwhile, make the dip: Combine the cream cheese and brown sugar in a food processor; process until light and very smooth, 1 to 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides then add the peanut butter, yogurt and vanilla. Process, scraping down the sides halfway through, until very light and smooth, 1 to 2 minutes more. Transfer to a serving bowl.
- Combine the semisweet chocolate chips and coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 50-percent power in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until melted, about 60 seconds total. Transfer to a resealable sandwich bag, twist to close like a pastry bag and snip a small corner. Pipe concentric circles on the surface of the dip. Drag a toothpick through the circles, starting from the center and working your way out, to create a spider web design. Add a few candy spiders, if desired.
- Finish the ghosts: Once the bananas are frozen, combine the white chocolate chips and 2 teaspoons coconut oil in a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water (do not let the bowl touch the water) and melt, stirring until very smooth, 2 to 3 minutes. Hold a frozen banana over the bowl and spoon white chocolate over the top, letting the excess drip back into the bowl. Return to the parchment-lined baking sheet and press in 3 chocolate chips, flat-sides up, to make 2 eyes and a mouth. Repeat with the remaining bananas and chocolate chips. Return to the freezer until the white chocolate is hardened, at least 15 minutes, up to 4 hours.
Halloween Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
Monsters:
6 ounces dark-green candy melting wafers
1 to 2 teaspoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening, if needed
1/2 cup dark-green sanding sugar, plus more as needed
12 large strawberries with green tops, rinsed and dried well
24 small candy eyeballs
1 ounce chocolate chips, optional
Ghosts:
6 ounces white candy melting wafers
1 to 2 teaspoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening, if needed
12 large strawberries with green tops, rinsed and dried well
1 ounce black candy melting wafers or chocolate chips
Pumpkins:
6 ounces orange candy melting wafers
1 to 2 teaspoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening, if needed
12 large strawberries with green tops, rinsed and dried well
1 ounce chocolate chips
Directions
- For the monsters: Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Put the candy wafers in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Cook, stirring occasionally once the wafers soften, until smooth. If the candy starts to reharden or seize up, stir in a teaspoon or so of coconut oil or shortening and stir again until smooth.
- Spread the sanding sugar in a small shallow bowl. Gather a strawberry at the leaves and dip into the melted candy, letting the excess drip back into the bowl. Gently press the coated strawberry in the sugar, coating it completely (don’t press too hard or you’ll get too much sugar on the strawberry). Set leaf-side down on the prepared baking sheet and repeat with the remaining strawberries. Refrigerate until set, about 10 minutes, keeping the remaining melted candy warm in the double boiler.
- Spread a tiny bit of the remaining melted candy on the back of 2 candy eyeballs and press them on near the tip of the strawberry. Meanwhile, if you’d like to make mouths on your monsters, melt the chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a small plain tip. Pipe mouths onto the monsters. Let sit until eyes and mouths are set, about 10 minutes.
- For the ghosts: Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Put the candy wafers in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Cook, stirring occasionally once the wafers soften, until smooth. If the candy melts start to reharden or seize up, stir in a teaspoon or so of coconut oil or shortening and stir again until smooth.
- Gather a strawberry at the leaves and dip into the melted candy, letting some but not all of the excess drip back into the bowl. Set leaf-side up on the prepared baking sheet, letting the excess melted candy pool into the front to create the bottom of the ghost. Repeat with the remaining strawberries. Refrigerate until set, about 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, melt the black candy wafers or chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave, following the microwave instructions on the package if using candy wafers. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a small plain tip. Once the white candy has set, pipe small ovals for the nose and eyes on each ghost and let set 10 to 15 minutes.
- For the pumpkins: Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Put the candy wafers in the top of a double boiler set over simmering water. Cook, stirring occasionally once the wafers soften, until smooth. If the candy starts to reharden or seize up, stir in a teaspoon or so of coconut oil or shortening and stir again until smooth.
- Gather a strawberry at the leaves and dip into the melted candy, letting the excess drip back into the bowl. Set leaf-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining strawberries. Refrigerate until set, about 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, transfer the remaining orange melted candy to a piping bag fitted with a plain tip. Once the coating on the strawberries has hardened, pipe vertical lines from top to bottom for the ribs on a pumpkin. Refrigerate until set, about 5 minutes.
- Melt the chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a small plain tip. Pipe eyes, mouths and noses on the pumpkins to resemble jack-o’-lanterns and let set 10 to 15 minutes.

Halloween Night By: Connor
It was a dark Halloween night and a heavy fog hugged the ground in the forest. Trick or treaters were going back to their houses to eat their candy. Boom! Lightning struck the ground and hit a tree. A witches cackle shook the forest. The wind was harsh and a house appeared out of nowhere. There was one more trick or treater, Jacob. He was looking for another house to get candy from. He saw the house appear. Jacob was a ghost this year. He knocked on the door.
The door swung open and wind knocked Jacob over. He heard a witches cackle and goosebumps started crawling up his arm. An old woman stepped into the doorway. “Trick or treat!” yelled Jacob. “Oh you want a trick eh well I’ll give you one,” mumbled the witch. “Come inside poor boy,” the witch said. “Join all in, not a fright, come on sing.Ghosts and varmints, vampire bats, witches in their pointy hats want a Halloween like that so lets see, spin, spin, spin, now turn him into his costume for a party,” the witch said. Soon the boy started spinning around in circles. Poof! The boy turned into a ghost because that was his costume.
“Oh no,” said Jacob. “Nobody will remember you because of your new form,” the witch said. The boy went outside. He started crying. Then he got an idea. “I can just look in the book, it's open. “Crackkk. What was that? “ the boy said. “Hello, “ said a prince with a frog face. It was somebody else who was turned into their costume. They both had the same idea. “Let's go back to normal, “ they said in unison. So while the witch was outside they snuck into the house. The book said to find a rose petal from a ghost bride and sing this, “Come bring us back to normal, spin spin spin, now we are humans again,“ it said.
They got a ghost bride’s petal easily but the witch came inside and almost found them. They went to the bubbling cauldron. They sang the words and they started spinning and then they looked at themselves in the mirror. What a wonderful night. So if you see a house appear out of nowhere and you hear witches cackling, go inside your house and hide.
Writing From Ms. Keaveney's Class
“The Holiday That Has It All” By Jaxon
"When you ask people, 'What is your favorite holiday?' you’ll get responses like, 'I love Christmas,' 'I love Easter,' or 'My favorite is Halloween.'" But for me Thanksgiving is the best holiday. I love all the different foods that are made for Thanksgiving, like Turkey, gravy, stuffing and mashed potatoes. Also, many families put their own spin on what they make to include different foods from their culture. My family also likes to make cranberry sauce and mac and cheese on the side. Also, let’s not forget the football games. I know not everyone likes football but it’s a lot of fun to watch. There is also the Thanksgiving Day Parade. The balloons are ginormous. Did you know that the average balloon is 60 feet tall? Thanksgiving is a day for food, family and fun and that is why it is my favorite holiday!

I Was Stuck At Home All By Myself by Sophia
I was stuck at home all by myself. It was Halloween night and my mom and dad had taken my little brother out trick-or-treating. I was watching my phone when all of a sudden I heard a “scratch scratch.” I freaked out and called my mom but she did not answer I got really scared and I hid under my bed to try to calm down so I did breathing exercises but nothing worked. I tried to call my mom again but she did not answer.
I grabbed my flashlight and went outside to try to see what was making the sound. So, I walked to the door trying to stay calm. When I walked outside all I saw was a raccoon. I thought to myself that the raccoon could not be what was making the scratching noise. But, right after I finished thinking that the raccoon did make the scratching noise. Then I realized that there was nothing to be afraid of. My mom and dad came home with my little brother. They also bought pizza for dinner. My little brother gave me a piece of chocolate and it was my favorite piece so I said, “thank you!” I told my mom all about what just happened. (I was stuck at home all by myself. MISSION TO MARS!!!
🚀 5th Grade Enrichment Update: Mission to Mars! 🌌
Creating Our Own Rovers!
Our 5th graders have been diving deep into all things Mars during Enrichment—and it's been out of this world! 🌍➡️🔴
We've been learning about NASA's amazing rover, Perseverance, and how it's exploring the Martian terrain, using its high-tech tools to send data back to Earth. Inspired by the mission, our students got creative and built their own versions of a Mars rover!
Each student designed a rover packed with essential tools such as cameras, x-rays, solar panels for power, and other cool gadgets to help their rover complete its mission. Their ideas were thoughtful, innovative, and super fun!
Up next in our journey? We're exploring how engineers and astronauts tackle "drag," that tricky force that helps slow down spacecraft for a safe and accurate landing on Mars. 🛬
Mars is turning out to be one seriously cool planet. Stay tuned for more cosmic adventures!
🛰️ Blast Off into Learning! 🚀
This month's space adventure: DRAG!
Our young scientists have been learning all about something super cool...DRAG! That’s the force that helps slow things down, like space capsules or Rovers, when they come back to Earth (or any planet). Without enough drag, a Rover could crash land and not be able to do its important job!
To explore this idea, we built our very own space capsules (with pennies inside to add weight!). First, we dropped them with no drag to see what would happen. Then, we got creative and added different materials to make drag and slow them down. With each test, we timed how long it took for the capsule to land...trying to make it slower each time.
After some trial and error, most of us were able to create enough drag to make a big difference. We had a total BLAST experimenting and learning like real engineers!
Way to go, space crew! 🌟

4th Grade News: Starting Our Native American Unit with Ozobots!
We’re kicking off our Native American unit in a fun and exciting way! This month, 4th graders got to work with Ozobots...tiny, smart robots that can follow codes and paths. First, the kids practiced by coding a map that was given to them. Then, they got creative and made their own maps for friends to try and solve!
Next up, we’ll be building Keva Plank mazes and seeing if the Ozobots can find their way through. After that, we’ll dive into learning about Native American history and culture, along with some cool new engineering projects. It’s going to be a fun, hands-on adventure!
Enrichment 3rd Grade
3rd Grade News: Adventures in the Amazon Rainforest!
Our journey through the Amazon Rainforest has begun! We started by learning about the Amazon River. Did you know it gets wider and deeper during the rainy season? It’s so powerful that there are no bridges over it because they wouldn’t survive the rising and changing water!
But that didn’t stop us! We challenged ourselves to build bridges anyway and tried to make them strong enough to hold weight. It was tricky, but we gave it our best effort!
Next, we learned about the houses and structures built along the river. They have to be strong, tall, and able to handle big winds. We got to build our own structures using just 15 index cards and you won’t believe how much weight they could hold...ok...we'll show you below!!! 😀
Stay tuned...more Amazon adventures are coming soon! 🌿🐍🌧️
🌧️🌿 Rainforest Weather Watchers! 🌬️🐒
3rd Grade Scientists Explore Wind & Rain!
Our 3rd grade explorers have been diving into the wild weather of the rainforest! We discovered that when it rains during a storm, the wind often comes right along with it. 🌪️💦
To help us understand how wind works, we learned some clever ways to test the wind and figure out which direction it’s blowing. Then, we designed and built our very own wind detectors and anemometers (that’s a fancy word for a tool that measures wind direction!).
We had so much fun being weather scientists and discovering how wind and rain work together during a rainforest storm. Way to go, 3rd grade meteorologists! ⛅🌴
