Community Update

OCTOBER 21, 2026
Our hearts go out to the victims' families of the tragic school shooting in Bend Oregon. It is a reminder to all of us of the preciousness of life and the need to remain vigilant--not out of fear, but out of hope for an even better tomorrow for our families, children and community. Vista Unified has a robust partnership with law enforcement who provide school resource officers that know our campuses and interact with our students on a daily basis. Our staff has training to prepare for such an unlikely event. Lastly, Vista Unified provides an anonymous tip line at www.psstworld.com/report-it/. If you see something, say something.
Support for VUSD Families: The VCC Resource Hub
Life can bring unexpected challenges, and sometimes families need a little extra support. Whether navigating financial difficulties, changes at home, or other life circumstances, families don't have to face these challenges alone.
At Vista Unified School District, we care deeply about the well-being of our students and families. We know that challenges at home can sometimes affect how students feel and how they do in school. We want every student to have the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. That's why we want every family to know about the helpful resources and support available in our community.
The VCC Resource Hub Is Here for You!
The VCC Resource Hub is available to all VUSD families and can help connect you with community resources and services based on your family's needs. Whether you are looking for assistance during a difficult time or simply exploring available resources, we encourage you to reach out.
Your School Community Is Here to Help
Families can also reach out to their school's Community Liaison, who can listen, answer questions, and help connect them with available resources and services. Your School Counselor or School Social Worker is also available to help. Not sure where to start? Just stop by your school's office and ask!
You don't have to wait until things feel overwhelming to reach out. Whether you have a question or need a little extra support, we're here to help. Reaching out is a positive step, and we are here to help.
At Vista Unified, caring for one another is at the heart of who we are. Every family deserves to feel supported, connected, and valued.

We hope you will bring your experiences, creativity, and ideas to help us design a campaign that is genuinely useful for VUSD families.

December 10: Prototype and Feedback. Earlier that week, students serving on the Superintendent’s Council for Innovative Learning will review a draft Board policy proposal. At this forum, we will share the proposal, share what we heard from the students, and gather final community feedback before preparing the policy for the School Board’s first reading in January.
Festival of the Arts: A Celebration of Creativity and Possibility!
What an incredible day celebrating the artistic talents of Vista Unified students! On Saturday, October 17, Main Street came alive with music, dance, art, and creativity as students from across our district shared their talents with families and the community at the 22nd Annual Vista Festival of the Arts!
This year's festival featured student artwork from 24 schools, 31 performances across three stages, more than 1,200 student performers, and 36 visual arts and craft booths! From choirs, jazz bands, ballet folklórico, and hip-hop to painting, ceramics, and digital art, our students showcased the remarkable creativity, talent, and artistic expression flourishing throughout Vista Unified.
A huge thank you to our incredible arts teachers, interns, and VUSD Arts Leadership Team whose dedication, coordination, and countless hours of preparation made this celebration possible. We are equally grateful to the families and community members who filled Main Street, cheered on our performers, and celebrated the artistic accomplishments of our students.
The Festival of the Arts was a beautiful expression of our Pulse of Possibility, reminding us of the power of the visual and performing arts to amplify student voices, inspire imagination, and bring our community together.
California Dashboard
2026 California School Dashboard
The 2026 California School Dashboard is now publicly available. Released on October 15, 2026, the Dashboard is available earlier in the school year than ever before. The Dashboard is an online tool that provides families and communities with important information about school and district performance across the state. It features easy-to-read reports on multiple measures of school success to provide a more complete picture of student achievement and growth. To view results for Vista Unified and individual schools, visit caschooldashboard.org.
Data Insights - Advancing Student Learning
Vista Unified uses a variety of measures to understand how our students are growing over time. Our second Data Insights issue of the 26-27 school year shares achievement results from the 2026 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The CAASPP assessments provide an important measure of student achievement in English Language arts, mathematics, and science. We are happy to see VUSD students have continued a multi-year trend of growth in all three CAASPP subject areas. For more information, please read Data Insights Issue 2 in the link below.
Vista Unified Recognized for Outstanding Student Achievement - STAR Award
Vista Unified Recognized for Outstanding Student Achievement
Vista Unified School District has earned a STAR Award on the 2026 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll, joining just four unified school districts (or 11 total school districts) in San Diego County to receive this distinction. In addition, 10 VUSD schools earned individual Honor Roll recognition, the fourth-highest number among all school districts in the county.
All 10 schools received the Star designation, recognizing strong academic achievement in schools serving significant populations of socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Based on three years of California state assessment results, the Honor Roll recognizes schools and districts demonstrating sustained academic performance across grade levels and student groups.
These distinctions highlight Vista Unified's continued commitment to academic excellence, equitable opportunities, and improved outcomes for all students.
STEM2Career Expo - STEM Challenge Vote, Last Call!
Our 3rd Annual STEM2Career Expo will be taking place on Wednesday, March 24th at Vista High School this year. At this event we have a STEM challenge where any VUSD student is able to participate. We want students to choose what that challenge should be! Please have your child(ren) vote on what they think the challenge should be, by filling out this Google Form. Please have them complete their vote by Friday, October 30th at 3pm. Once we have all of the votes in, we will announce the challenge and send out a sign up sheet. Thank you for your participation.
