HCS MUSICIANS SHINE AT THE 2026 BURLINGTON DISCOVER JAZZ FESTIVAL
The Hinesburg Community School Jazz Band brought their talent and energy to Church Street in as part of the 2026 Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. Performing alongside student musicians from schools across Vermont, our jazz band had the opportunity to share their music in the heart of the city. From lively rhythms to impressive solos, the students showcased the results of their hard work and dedication while experiencing the excitement of performing at one of Vermont’s premier music events. We are incredibly proud of our musicians for representing HCS with confidence, creativity, and school spirit. Bravo to our Jazz Band and directors on a fantastic performance!
SOCK PUPPET CREATION AND PRESENTATION (KINDERGARTEN & GRADE 8)
This spring, our kindergarten students let their imaginations run wild as they created drawings of unique and whimsical creatures. Their colorful creations were then passed along to our talented eighth-grade students, who carefully transformed each drawing into a one-of-a-kind sock puppet.
Over the course of the project, the eighth graders worked hard to bring the kindergarteners' imaginative characters to life, paying close attention to the details and personalities in each drawing. The project provided a wonderful opportunity for collaboration between our youngest and oldest students while showcasing creativity, craftsmanship, and community.
At the end of the project, the eighth graders proudly presented the finished puppets to the kindergarten students. The excitement and joy on the kindergarteners' faces as they met their imagined creatures in puppet form made this a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
SKULL DETECTIVES!
Ms. Patnode's first-grade students recently became wildlife detectives during a special visit from a guest presenter! Students learned about local mammals and discovered how scientists use clues to identify different animals. Armed with curiosity and sharp observation skills, they examined real animal skulls and studied the shapes of the teeth to figure out which mammals they belonged to. The young detectives made thoughtful predictions, shared their ideas, and learned how different animals use their teeth to eat and survive in the wild. It was a hands-on adventure in science that sparked curiosity, encouraged critical thinking, and left students eager to learn more about the amazing animals that live right here in Vermont.
CVU HOSTS 4th GRADE TRACK MEET
Every fourth grader from across CVSD spent the day at CVU today participating in a district-wide track meet. The event was organized by CVU students as part of their RISE (Reflective Interest-Based Student Experiences), and the meet was equal parts competition, camaraderie, connection, and celebration.
6th GRADE INTERNATIONAL FAIR
Our 6th grade French students recently took part in an International Fair, where they showcased their learning about French-speaking countries from around the world. Each student researched a country, exploring its culture, traditions, geography, and daily life. To bring their learning to life, students created original artwork highlighting a unique aspect of their country and prepared a traditional dish to share with classmates. The fair was a wonderful celebration of global cultures, giving students the opportunity to learn from one another while experiencing the rich diversity of the French-speaking world through art, food, and conversation.
