Attica Elem. Newsletter - Oct. 25

A Look Back at September!
It's hard to believe it, but we are already through the first month of school! The sun has been shining and we have been taking advantage of the warm temperatures, getting outside whenever we can!
On September 12th we held our first elementary assembly of the school year. We took time to discuss what CHAMP behavior looks like all around our school and were introduced to character. We talked about how our character traits define who we are - good or bad.
Our character trait for the month of September was INITIATIVE. We learned that initiative means we can recognize when something needs to be done and take the first step to do it. It also means that we can stay focused and work hard even when no one is watching. We show initiative when we look for ways to help others or improve our classroom on our own.
Our students of the month for September, those who have gone above and beyond demonstrating CHAMP behavior and INITIATIVE are:
- PreK - Nathan Bartz, Theo Lehmann
- Kindergarten - Stella Zimmermann
- First Grade - Ian Ripstein
- Second Grade - Michael Jansma
- Third Grade - Weston Gephart, Lydia Crowley
- Fourth Grade - Jay Nutty
These students will be recognized at our next assembly and at an upcoming Board of Education Meeting (more information regarding this will be sent to parents).
We also brought back CHAMP CHIPS this year! Ask your child what CHAMP chips are, and how they earn these tokens! We are working together as a whole school to fill our CHAMP Chips Jar to earn a fun surprise!
Our theme for the month of October will be INDIVIDUALITY. You can talk with your child about individuality by focusing on the idea that everyone is unique and that these differences should be celebrated. You can use relatable examples of how people have different favorite colors, looks, or ways of playing. Our goals for the month will be:
We can recognize what makes us unique and special.
We can express our own ideas, thoughts, and feelings respectfully.
We can make choices that reflect who we are, even if they are different from others.
We can respect and celebrate the differences in others.

FBI Buffalo Presents: Digital Dangers
FBI Buffalo Presents: Digital Dangers, When Online Chats Turn into Manipulation or Violence Against Our Youth
A virtual presentation by FBI Buffalo in collaboration with the FBI Buffalo Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBIBCAAA)
Our entire school community is invited for this in-person event on November 6, 2025, to watch an online simulcast of FBI Buffalo presenting Digital Dangers: When Online Chats Turn into Manipulation or Violence Against Our Youth.
This is a one-night-only event for school districts in Western New York; don’t miss out! It will not be recorded. Eligible schools must be within the 17 counties of Western New York that FBI Buffalo covers: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates.
Date: Thursday, November 6, 2025
Time: 6-8 p.m. (We suggest arriving before 6pm)
Format: This event will be strictly a Watch Group format only; parents/guardians will not be able to view the event individually. The purpose of the Watch Group format is to ensure we can speak about these important topics in a safe environment.
Description of the Presentation: Digital Dangers is a virtual presentation conducted by FBI Buffalo and designed to inform parents, educators, and school communities about today’s most pressing online safety concerns and provide resources for parents and educators to use at home and in the classroom.
FBI Buffalo will focus on the dangers of our youth connecting with people online who they don’t know in-person. For some kids, they’re influenced into sending an inappropriate photo to someone they think is a peer, soon realizing it’s someone threatening them for more photos – or money. For other kids, they’re unknowingly being befriended by violent online groups who are motivated by a desire to cause fear, chaos, and harm.

Notes from the Nurse:
New York State requires schools to conduct hearing and vision screenings to help identify potential health concerns early. Required grades for Vision and Hearing screening are: PreK or Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 11th grades.
In addition to these required grades, all new to district students are required to be screened for vision and hearing regardless of grade. Some students may need to be screened during the year for special programs like special education as well as a concern for vision or hearing in the classroom.
Your child will only be screened if they fall in one of the above categories. Parents will be notified of any screenings that are not passed for follow up care referrals.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s health, please call Nurse Dispenza at 585-591-0400 extension 2238 or email at MDispenza@AtticaCSD.org
The Lunch Line:
The staff in the Blue Devils Cafe are back in action and thrilled to see all the students for the 2025-2026 school year. We had a great start to September and are so glad to see so many children taking advantage of free breakfast and lunch at school. Fueling minds and bodies is a great way to be successful in the classroom!
October has us back in full swing with all sorts of fun in the lunchroom. We are excited to host two taste tests this month!
- On October 17th, students will have the opportunity to taste test "Caprese Cups" featuring fresh, homegrown tomatoes grown in our high tunnel on the Middle/High School Campus, mozzarella balls, fresh and local basil, and balsamic.
- On October 24th, we are whipping up some wild blueberry frozen yogurt samples for students to try, with locally sourced berries and Upstate yogurt!
When we return from the long weekend in mid-October, we will be featuring some delicious apple products in celebration of Ag Literacy Week! It is always fun to be able to tie some foods in with the lessons our students are learning! We have partnered with our Librarian, Mrs Loranty-Dispenza, for an apple-inspired good time, with the guidance of our district's farm to school coordinator, Alicia Spoth.
Be sure to check out the October Lunch Menu to see what we have in store!
We are looking forward to another exciting school year with our favorite Blue Devils!!
