Red Ribbon Week October 26-30
From the Principal, Stefi Slewitzke
Dear Families,
This week, we proudly celebrated Georgia Pre-K Week by welcoming several special guest readers to Summit Hill! Our youngest learners enjoyed stories shared by Lillie Pozatek, Fulton County Board of Education Member; Dr. Kibbey Crumbley, Zone Superintendent; and Officer Scott Sanford of the Milton Police Department. We are grateful to these community leaders for helping foster a love of reading and making the week so memorable for our Pre-K students.
As we head into the long weekend, we wish all of our families a wonderful Monday holiday and an enjoyable three-day weekend!
Warmly,
Stefi

Discovery Lab
We have had a great week of labs this week welcoming Kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd graders for their second discovery lab!
Kindergarten- We explored our 5 senses with a taste test! We tried flavors including sour, sweet, spicy, bitter and salty and voted for which flavor we liked the best. Next, we used our sense of touch and sound to make a hypothesis on different materials in a hidden bag. We also talked about depth perception and played a game to see if two eyes were better than one!
2nd grade- We explored the three phases of matter, including solid liquid and gas with an experiment for each phase of matter! We created carbon dioxide with vinegar and baking soda to blow up a balloon and discussed how different gases contain different amounts of mass. Next, we created butter from pure cream and observed the changes in the matter as the phase hardened! Last we discussed, the different amounts of viscosity different liquid liquids contain and ended our lab with a liquid race!
3rd grade- We explored many different types of water, pollutants and what they represent in our lakes, ponds and oceans. Each group got to use many different materials to pollute their individual pond such as micro plastics, oil, food crumbs. Feathers and dirt. We then discussed the importance of a filtration system and several different material materials that can be used as a filter including rocks, sand, sponges, coffee filters and each group designed their own filter to clean their pond water!
Calling All Tech-Savy 3rd-5th Graders!
Summit Hill Elementary invites enthusiastic students in grades 3 through 5 to showcase their love for technology in a local competition happening the week of October 26th. The top project will advance to the Fulton County Technology Fair.
Interested? Visit the Summit Hill website, navigate to the Media Center, and sign up by October 16th. You can participate individually or with a partner, and we encourage you to develop your project at home. All entries will be judged in the Media Center.
Please note: This is a student-only event.
PTO Update
Fall Festival is coming up on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5–7 p.m. on the S.H.E. backfield! Admission is FREE for all S.H.E. families thanks to the Husky Fund. Join us for Trunk or Treat, bounce houses, games, Musical Cakes, a haunted school bus, food and more! We need your help to make it happen: Sign up to host a trunk or volunteer, donate store-bought desserts for Musical Cakes, and send in one bag of candy with each of your S.H.E. students (if you’re not hosting a trunk). Visit the Fall Festival event page for sign-ups, donation details, FAQs and everything you need to know!
The S.H.E. Book Fair is coming Oct. 30-Nov. 12! Students will visit the Book Fair during their Media specials time to buy books using cash or their eWallet. Mrs. Howard would love extra hands to help them find books and check out. Volunteer slots are organized around the Book Fair buying schedule so you can volunteer with your student’s class if you’d like. Proceeds help fund S.T.E.A.M. Day & Night. Thank you for your help! SIGN UP HERE.
ALERT: We continue to work with Membership Toolkit to restore the PTO email distribution list. We kindly ask that everyone who registered for MTK this year logs in to MTK to review your family info and update your family’s communications preferences for PTO emails, and hit Save. This should restore your place on the email list.

YEARBOOK ART CONTEST - ARTWORK DUE OCT. 23
Remember that Yearbook Cover Art Contest submissions are due to Mrs. Elder, by Friday, Oct. 23. This year’s theme is ONE TEAM. ONE DREAM. Students are invited to show what this theme means to them through artwork featuring Hero the Husky—working together, dreaming big, showing school spirit, helping a friend, or being part of a team.
HUSKY FUND HIGHLIGHTS
Once a month, teachers are greeted by the Happy Cart before school. Our first Happy Cart of the year was a Caffeine Cart, giving S.H.E. teachers and staff a boost after a long weekend. The October Happy Cart made its rounds this morning. Funded by your Husky Fund donations, Happy Carts are one way we show appreciation for the people who do so much for our students. Thank you for making it possible!
