Announcements and Updates
#GreenLightProjectNE
This May, TFLC is once again teaming up with the Mental Health Association of Nebraska and the Lancaster County Prevention Coalition for the #GreenLightProjectNE - to light up our community in vibrant green to bring mental health awareness to the forefront once again!
The link between tobacco use and mental health challenges is often overlooked. Individuals struggling with mental illness use tobacco at a much higher rate than the general population. Research has shown that tobacco use worsens mental health over time, exacerbating stress, anxiety, and depression. Our campaign is all about spreading hope, encouraging open conversations about mental health and rallying support for those seeking to quit tobacco.
Starting April 15th, we're offering free green light bulbs and yard signs at our partner locations, available in both English and Spanish. These symbols of support and awareness are yours to claim while supplies last! If you joined us last year, it's time to dust off your green lights and yard signs to show your support again!
Where to find your materials:
- Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department: 3131 O Street, Lincoln, NE
- Region V Systems/Mental Health Association of Nebraska: 1645 N Street, Lincoln, NE

New Tobacco Free Nebraska Resource
Tobacco Free Nebraska has developed a new Nebraska Tobacco Quitline resource: "How to Get Connected to a Translator – Quitline Multi-Language Resource," a comprehensive guide to accessing Nebraska Tobacco Quitline services in multiple languages. Language should not be a barrier to seeking assistance, especially when it comes to quitting tobacco.
This two-page guide offers step-by-step instructions for getting connected to free help quitting in six languages: English, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Arabic, Burmese and Nepali. This resource is designed to help individuals using tobacco connect with Quitline services in their preferred language by walking individuals through the process of connecting with a translator via the main Quitline phone number, 1-800-QUIT-NOW, by connecting with a specific language line, or by talking to their healthcare provider.
