Hello Carver Families,

This week is American Education Week, a time to celebrate our students, teachers, and staff. We will take time to recognize all the hard work that goes into helping our children learn and grow. Families are an important part of our school community, and we appreciate your partnership. Thank you for supporting our students each day.

Great job showing your Eagle Pride! Our school-wide attendance once again beat the State requirement! Every grade level met or passed the 94% goal, and a huge shout-out goes to our Fourth Graders for soaring to an incredible 98% attendance rate! Thank you to our students for showing up, our families for getting everyone to school on time, and our staff for inspiring our young learners—I'm so proud of our entire Eagle community!

For our families who RSVP’d, get ready for an out-of-this-world Literacy Night this Wednesday, November 19, 2025! Join us to learn simple ways to help your child build reading automaticity, make and take a fun literacy game to take home and enjoy a meal together as a family. We can’t wait to see you there!

Scroll down in the Smore to learn more about our exciting December Judy Center Winter Wonderland event!

Warmly,

Ms. Morgan, Principal

Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study

Updated November 3, 2025

St. Mary’s County Public Schools has launched a comprehensive Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study initiative to guide how our schools serve students and families in the years ahead. Your input matters. Whether you join a meeting, offer feedback, or follow along with updates, your voice will help shape the future of education in St. Mary’s County.

For UPDATED information please click on the link below.

  • Redistricting Information

A new community survey will be available Monday, November 17, 2025 in the link above. Please provide your feedback as moving school lines may impact your family.

Our school has a parent representative and staff representative on the district-wide Community Engagement Redistricting Team. The representatives will help ensure communication of the work, timeline, and community engagement opportunities by sharing information on surveys and community engagement events through school, community, and social media resources. You can reach out to them for additional information or to share your perspective.

  • Brittany Atkins (bgatkins@smcps.org) - Parent Representative
  • Jennifer Knight (jaknight@smcps.org) - Staff Representative

GWCES BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION POLICY GWCES BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION POLICY

We respect the many different ways that families like to recognize their child’s birthday. In addition to class recognitions of birthdays, we recognize birthdays during our weekly Community Gathering.

Although we have accepted edible treats in years past, we can no longer accept food items for birthday celebrations. We have an increased number of students with food sensitivities and schools have been encouraged to limit celebrations that involve food during the school day. Additionally, we cannot accept balloons due to latex allergies.

Some families choose to provide a small trinket or non-food based treat to mark their child’s birthday. If you are planning on providing something for the class on your child’s birthday, we ask that you follow these guidelines:

  • Inform your child’s teacher at least 3 days prior if you intend to provide something for the class on your child’s birthday.

  • Trinkets/non-food items will be passed out by the child and his/her teacher near the end of the school day. This helps to minimize distractions to instruction and ensure that items are not lost or broken during the course of the school day.

St. Mary’s County Public Schools is transitioning all schools to an online payment system for monetary transactions. The system we are using is MySchoolBucks.

What is MySchoolBucks?

MySchoolBucks is a safe and convenient online payment system that lets families easily manage school-related fees. With MySchoolBucks, you can:

  • Add money to your child’s cafeteria account for breakfast and lunch purchases.

  • View account balances and set up low-balance alerts.

  • Pay for school activities, field trips, or other fees when available.

You can access MySchoolBucks on any computer or by downloading the mobile app, making it easy to stay connected and in control of your child’s school payments anytime, anywhere.
