Attendance and Early Dismissal

All students are expected to attend school regularly in accordance with state laws and regulations. The schools, families, and communities must work together to foster exemplary attendance for all students (Board Policy 5113). Morning arrival begins as early as 7:35 a.m. for students eating breakfast and 7:45 a.m. for all other students. Breakfast is served from 7:35–7:55 a.m., and students are expected to be in class by 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. must be dropped off at the front of the building to sign in and receive a tardy pass.

Examples of Lawful Absences include: death in the immediate family, illness, suspension, observance of religious holidays, court summons, etc.

Please be sure to provide an Electronic note to the school when your child is absent. using this link https://shorturl.at/kmoL4 . This link is also located on our school website under CMIT Families tab/ Parents.

This form should be completed by parents when their child is arriving late/ early dismissal or absent from school. Students have 3 (THREE) school days once they return, to submit a note explaining their absence. (PLEASE NOTE: Family Trips/Vacations are NOT excused absences, you must submit a different form and get pre-approval from Principal Brauer) * Not all absence notes are excused. Families are encouraged to refer to Administrative Procedure 5113 for more information.

Please attach doctor's notes or any other supporting documentation that is related to the absence. Once an excused absence note is submitted , your child will be permitted to make up missing work. It would be helpful to have your child ask their teacher(s) and or email your child's teachers to see what missing work needs to be completed.

Early Dismissal ends at 2:30pm.

Attention Families,

PGCPS is excited to share an important update for families across Prince George’s County Public Schools. For the first time, High School Specialty Programs and Middle School Creative and Performing Arts eligibility notification letters will be released electronically in early March 2026, through Synergy, providing faster, more convenient access to this important information.

While schools will also receive electronic copies of the letters, families are strongly encouraged to activate their ParentVUE account to ensure there is no delay in viewing their child’s notification letter and time-sensitive next steps.

If you have not yet created your account, step-by-step guidance is available here: https://bit.ly/ParentVue-Support

We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to supporting you and your child throughout this process.

PTO Elections Are Coming — And We Need YOU!
The CMIT Middle School PTO Executive Board is excited to announce that nominations will open on March 12 for two positions: Recording Secretary and Parliamentarian.

Serving on the Executive Board is a meaningful way to support our school community, strengthen family engagement, and help shape the PTO’s work for the next two years. If you’ve ever considered stepping into a leadership role, this is a wonderful opportunity to get involved. Self‑nominations are welcome and encouraged.
To run, you must be a PTO member in good standing. Because terms last two years, we especially encourage parents of rising 6th and 7th graders to consider serving. However, parents of rising 8th graders who are interested are absolutely welcome to apply as well. We’re looking for collaborative, dependable, and flexible individuals who bring curiosity, openness, and a strong team spirit to our school community.

More details about the nomination and election process will be shared soon. In the meantime, we invite you to join us at the March 12th General Membership Meeting, where our current Recording Secretary and Parliamentarian will share insights about their roles and answer any questions.

For a full description of each position and an overview of the nomination and election procedures, please refer to the PTO Bylaws linked below.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NrKKdT6FJScc04tIKjqDjKQeUtLLJqNe/view?usp=sharing

Thank you in advance for considering this opportunity to support our students, families, and school community. Your leadership truly makes a difference.

The tentative election date is May 14, 2026, during the General Membership Meeting.
