News fromthe NestIssue #6: September 29th, 2023

Hello Elm Street School Families and Friends,

This has been an emotional week in our community as we continue to grapple with the loss of of one of our student's parents. I appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support directly to the family as well as to our team here at Elm as we think about ways to support each other, all our students, and the grieving family. One of the things I have come to know about the special place that is Elm, is that in these moments of hardship and sadness, this is a community that knits themselves tighter together to hold on to each other and provide the safety and support that is needed.

In this week's News from the Nest below you will find information about:

  • Upcoming events in October
  • Sign ups for Family/Educator conferences
  • Additional Tea and Talk times
  • The new PAC website
  • Fall Festival information and volunteer sign ups
  • Book Fair information and volunteer sign ups

I hope everyone has a restful and reflective weekend and I am looking forward to seeing you at some of the amazing events that are planned for this upcoming month!

Jen

More Tea and Talk Times Added

This summer during the first wave of Tea and Talks, I had a chance to meet many family members of the Elm Street School community as I began my transition. As I continue to learn more about Elm and what makes it so special, I've set aside some more time at the end of this month, October, and November for anyone to drop by Elm or set up a phone call for us to connect.

You can use this online scheduling tool to book a time that works best for your schedule.

If you don't see a time that works for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to me (jbuller@walpole.k12.ma.us) to set up something outside these windows of time.

New PAC Website

The Elm Street PAC has re-hosted our website with a new provider, same address! Please visit www.elmstreetpac.org today to register yourself and students! Registration will drive the online friend finder and email directory. Due to privacy and functionality, no users or emails were migrated from the former site.

Fall Family Festival: October 29th 3:00 - 5:00p

Fall Family Festival is a school-wide event focused on being a Fun Family Day!

  • Wristband purchase gives access to ALL activities including Trunk or Treat, AND 3 raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes and teacher raffles!

  • Many Games, Activities & Events!

  • Bake Sale to benefit 5th Grade Celebration

  • Scholastic Book Fair shopping will be open

In order to maintain the amount of fun, we need the support of our Elm Street families, local businesses, and beyond! Please consider:

  • Donating $ - Any monetary donation is appreciated and will be used to fund the event in order to maintain a lower entrance fee. Donations can be sent to school in an envelope “Attn: Elm PAC Fall Family Festival,” or via Venmo @Elm-St-PAC note “Fall Festival,” if that is more convenient.

  • Drop Off Candy- A bag (or 2 or 10) of Halloween Candy! There will be a collection bin outside the front office and we will be using this throughout the day as prizes and for the kids to enjoy collecting from the Trunk or Treat!

  • Sponsorship - Your family, small business, local businesses, corporate businesses or any other contribution could be a huge asset to make our day a success.

    • We are looking to have our four major raffle prizes sponsored. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring any of the below items, please reach out. We could keep this donation anonymous or we could use a logo to promote your business name!

      • American Girl Doll - approx $115

      • Chromebook - approx $200

      • Ride on bike and/or hoverboard and/or other outdoor toy - approx $100

      • Walpole Apparel Package - approx $115

      • Or ANY prize that you would like to donate

  • Volunteer the day of the event! Sign Up Genius to come approximately 10 days before the event. Please save the date on your calendar and be prepared to sign up for a volunteer slot. Also, if you have an older student in 5th grade, middle or high school there are many opportunities for them to help throughout the day as well.

  • Trunk or Treat sign up genius is OPEN - we encourage families to host a trunk, or groups can make a fun spot together - we just ask that groups plan to only have 1-2 adults at their trunk during the event so that we have enough volunteers for all of the activities during the day. Trunk or Treat sign up genius link.

We look forward to seeing EVERYONE enjoying this day! Please be in touch with Ms. Buller if your family needs financial assistance to participate in this FUN day! Contact the fall festival committee with any questions, sponsorship opportunities or if you’d like to get involved!

Scholastic Book Fair: Coming Soon!

We are excited to be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair again this year from October 23rd through October 29th! For every dollar spent at the book fair, credit comes back to Elm Street School to be used directly by our teachers and library to get more books into the hands of our students! There will be many opportunities to shop and volunteer during school conferences and the Fall Family Festival. For now, we are looking for volunteers to help set up the book fair on Friday, October 20th, see link below

More information to come, please feel free to reach out to Rebecca Costello (rebeccaj.curtis@gmail.com) with any questions! Thank you Rebecca for organizing this wonderful program!
