JOIN OUR RESULTS STUDY SESSIONS: EMPOWERING STUDENTS TO CHOOSE THEIR OWN BOOKS

Be part of our Results: Foundational Skills Study Sessions—a professional learning series designed for educators ready to explore how to empower students as independent readers through intentional book choice, meaningful discussion, and reflection on current practices.

This spring, we’ll dive into the question: “How do we empower students to pick their own books?” Across three sessions, we’ll unpack the Forms of Reading from the Results handbook, examine what it means to select books beyond leveled systems, and explore a variety of reading modalities. Together, we’ll rethink how to organize classroom libraries, how to build student confidence, and go beyond the “just right” label to cultivate a joyful classroom culture of reading.

📚 Big Question:
How can we help teachers feel confident offering students books beyond the decodable text?

🔍 Big Issue:
For years, the A–Z leveled system gave us a false sense of security. But choosing a “just right” book is complex—five-finger rules, Lexile levels, and similar tools can help, yet none offer the full picture. Our sessions will open space to explore alternatives grounded in reading purpose, interest, and authenticity.

🗓️ Dates:
All three sessions will be virtual sessions held on Wednesdays
February 11 | March 18 | April 29
Time: 4:30–6:00 pm
