FOOD RESOURCES AT MHS AND IN THE COMMUNITY FOOD RESOURCES AT MHS AND IN THE COMMUNITY

We know many families are worried about food. Below, please find some local food resources that will help any family that is struggling with grocery bills.

We also have a mini Food Pantry right here at MHS. Students can bring home evening and weekend meals, and we also have some personal care items. If you know a student who might need this resource please complete this form and their counselor will meet with them.

We are very excited to welcome the HOSA Future Health Care Workers organization to Maynard High School! HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary and collegiate students who wish to pursue careers in the health professions. Much as DECA does for business teachers and students, HOSA provides teachers and students with hands-on learning, challenges, and competitions that make classroom learning come alive.

SPANISH EXCHANGE STUDENTS VISIT MAYNARD SPANISH EXCHANGE STUDENTS VISIT MAYNARD

From October 16 - 23, MHS hosted a group of students from Tomares, Andalucía, Spain for a week. Fourteen Maynard families each hosted a student for a week filled with fun New England fall activities, including pumpkin carving, an MHS football game, a trip to the Plimoth Patuxet Museums, the Freedom Trail in Boston, a walk around Walden Pond, and of course a visit to Dunkin's. The students from Spain visited classes at MHS, Fowler, and Green Meadow. It was a whirlwind of a week but friendships were built and memories were made!

This is part of our annual Spanish exchange with our partner school in Tomares. Tomares is a suburb of Seville, an historic city about the same size as Boston in southern Spain. The MHS students who hosted will visit their partners over February Break. They will stay with their families, see some of the region's attractions, observe and present in classes, improve their Spanish skills, and gain independence.

TIGER DAYS TIGER DAYS

As you read through our calendar, you may have noticed a new entry for "Tiger Days". This school year, the MHS faculty is piloting a special schedule once in every seven-day rotation. These days will be used for many purposes:

  • Advisory (our regular Advisory that we know and love)
  • Class Meetings
  • Vision of the Graduate Portfolio
  • Special Assemblies
  • Extra Help/Study Hall

Rather than missing class time, we will now have a special time in place for these activities, and more. This is just a pilot, so be ready to give us feedback about whether it is working! Check your first day of school packet for Tiger Day plans and schedules.
