A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East

Principal'sReportA Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley MiddleSchool East

A Word From Dr. Clune

Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,

We are so excited for the start of the school year! Our theme this year is 'Activate Learning'. We will be focused on High Impact Teaching Strategies, Targeted Feedback, Data Driven Instruction, and Student Engagement. We intend to ignite the passion for lifelong learning in every student.

We had an amazing 6th Grade Orientation last night. It was great to see all of the 6th Graders and their parents who attended. We are looking forward to a great year.

The First Day of School is this Monday, August 28, 2023. Parent drop off is in front of the auditroium. Students will sit in the auditroium by grade-level unless getting breakfast in the cafeteria. There will be adults throughout the building to help guide students.

ID cards

All students must bring their ID card that was issued to them last year. They will all need it to get lunch in the cafeteria. Homeroom teachers were given replacement ID cards. 6th Grade students will get a lanyard and plastic holder for the cards. 7th and 8th graders are able to purchase lanyards and holders for a nominal fee of $1 each. Permanent ID cards will be issued following picture day on September 20.

Late sports and activity buses

Starting on the first day of school there will be a 5:00 sports bus to take students home. The 4:00 activity bus will start running on Tuesday, September 26 for any students who are taking part in clubs and activities.

Please use this link to sign up for the sports bus.

Water bottles

With the warm weather, we recommend that middle school students bring water bottles to school. The containers must be plastic or metal. There are filling stations at various water fountains throughout the building.

Cellphones/Backpacks

Our expectations are that cellphones are 'off and away' during the school day. We encourage all students to use their locker to store personal items. Students may carry a backpack during the school day so long as it can fit underneath their seat.

School Supply Lists

School supply lists and other information for going back to school is located at the PVSD Back To School website below.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact our counseling center or main office. We are here to help.

Sincerely,

Seamus Clune, Ph.D.

New Garden Coming Spring 2024!

Our Green Team and Loss Group are co-sponsoring a certified butterfly garden and wildlife habitat that was designed by Master Gardeners at Penn State Extension. It will be located at the front of the school by the main office and include 3 benches and a picnic table. This garden is yet be named by the students but will be a place to memorialize and honor people and events through a personalized brick pathway that will run through the middle of the garden. You can help us fundraise by purchasing a brick for the pathway.

https://4everbricks.com/donors/PVMSE/

Please email Dr. Clune directly if you want to sponsor the picnic table ($1,400) or a bench ($800) or be listed as a sponsor ($1000) on the sign.

East Home & School Association

Welcome back East families and we hope everyone had a great summer! We have lots of things going on at the start of school, including our main annual fundraiser, Clash of the Classes.

Clash of the Classes

This is our annual fundraising event that is used to fund many of our events throughout the year, and like last year, it's also a little friendly competition between grades! The class with the highest participation rate will be treated with the Kona Ice truck, and should the school raise $12k, there will be an additional school-wide prize!

To make a donation head to your child's grade page via 99pledges!

Nurse's Notes

Required Immunizations

Please make sure that your child has their required immunizations to start school. Our nurse will be reaching out to individual families without their proper paperwork.

Physical & Dental Exams

Sixth grade students require a physical examination and seventh grade students require a dental examination. Exams from July 1, 2022 to the present are acceptable. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy to the Nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!

Medication

If your child requires medication during the school day, parents must bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. The forms can be found on the PV website. No medication should be in the student’s possession (pockets, lunch, purse/handbag, or backpack) unless designated by the nurse per state laws.

It is especially important if your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma AND requires emergency medication that you supply the nurse with the required medication.

All medications are to be delivered directly to the nurse’s office and kept in the health room unless otherwise designated by the school nurse. Medication may be delivered at the start of the school year.

TWEEN Talk Group

Tweens, ages 11 to 13, are invited to chat in a fun, informal atmosphere with Erin McMonagle, a guidance counselor at Perkiomen Valley East Middle School - as part of our Julia’s Joy Youth Empowerment Program. We have created a safe group, where they can come relax, unload and learn they are not alone all while meeting new friends. We believe learning Stress Management tips will help youth deal with the pressures they are feeling at this age and into the future!

This group is free thanks to donations, if you would like to make a donation, it is always appreciated, but not necessary!

SAFE2SAY

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Did you know that the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisit Lifeline?

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

https://988lifeline.org/current-events/the-lifeline-and-988/

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
