AVA Family Update

January 10, 2025

AVA Family UpdateJanuary 10, 2025

Good afternoon AVA Students and Families,

I have two important announcements this week.

1. I sent an email to all seniors and their families confirming intentions for both Senior Prom and Graduation. Please respond as soon as you can to ensure you can attend both if you wish. If you don't wish to participate, I'd like to know that too so we can stay on the same page.

2. With apologies for the late notice, we will have Parent Conferences next Thurdsday from 6-8 PM.

This year appointments will be made through SignUp Genius. Here’s how to do so:

  • Use Aspen (or talk to your child) to look up the teachers you want to visit
  • Go to our SignUp Genius portal: https://www.signupgenius.com/org/AHSConferencePilot#/
  • Find teachers by last name by scrolling or using the search bar
  • Once the name is found, click on it, and then select the desired appointment time. Be sure to click “save and continue” at the bottom of the page once the time is selected
  • Submit your name, your email, and your student’s name to finalize your appointment
  • Complete this process for each teacher you want to see

Appointments are quick - just 5 minutes, but we encourage you to meet with us.

I'll send a link next Thursday for my open meeting, so if you want to speak with me you can just pop in.

If this doesn't work well (it's a new system for us) rest assured that if you let me know you'd like to speak to your student's teachers, we will arrange virtual meetings for you.

We have a half-day Friday next week, and the related schedule is below. Thank you for your time.

Guidance Updates Guidance Updates

Junior Interviews

In the coming weeks, AVA Guidance will begin meeting with AVA juniors individually during Advisory to discuss post-secondary plans. An email will be sent out to AVA hockey juniors and families to make separate virtual appointments, so if you are a hockey program junior, please keep an eye out in your attleborops.net email for a message about junior interview!

ASVAB Test

Kind reminder: AHS campus will be hosting another ASVAB test administration on Friday, March 7th, so for any AVA student grade 10 and up who's interested in the military, we recommend taking this exam. Please register here. You must be logged into your attleborops.net account in order to view and submit the Googleform.

College Application Deadlines

As we approach many Regular Decision application deadlines for many post-secondary schools (Feb.-March), AVA seniors - please remember to email Ms Nellie at least 10 school days before the application deadline, as well as submit the transcript request form for each school you're applying to (also 10 school days prior). If you are using CommonApp, then you must invite me electronically as Counselor through the CommonApp website using my attleborops.net email address.

FAFSA Night Event

Kind reminder: For college-bound AVA seniors, the AHS Guidance Department will be hosting a FAFSA (financial aid) Night event on Thursday, January 23rd from 4pm to 7pm. Financial aid experts from Wheaton, Providence College, Roger Williams, Assumption, and AAA will be present to assist students and families. Dinner and refreshments will be served as well. Registration is required for this event, so please sign up here.

As always, please feel free to email me (nng@attleboroschools.com) with any questions, comments, or concerns. Have a fantastic weekend!
