We’re proud to announce that Stanwood High School will host a free EKG Youth Heart Screening event on Wednesday, October 1, in partnership with the Nick of Time Foundation.

The event honors the memory of Dillon Gilman, a beloved local teen who tragically passed away from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in 2024 due to an undetected heart condition.

This life-saving screening is open to anyone ages 12-24, regardless of where they attend school. There is no cost to participate, and donations are accepted to support future screenings.

  • Personal heart health history review

After scheduling online, participants will receive a confirmation email with a link to download the required health forms. Completed forms must be returned to Lisa Noland at the SHS Athletic window or emailed to shsnickoftime@stanwood.wednet.edu.

Why This Matters Why This Matters

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death among youth on school campuses — often with no warning signs. Dillon Gilman had no symptoms and was active, healthy, and full of life. His condition, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), could have been detected through a simple EKG.

“Dillon loved with his whole heart. His heart was literally too big for his body,” said Dillon’s mother, Jessica Gilman. “We hope this screening helps protect other families from what we’ve gone through.”

Community Support Needed Community Support Needed

To make this large-scale screening possible — with up to 700 participants in a single day — we are asking for community help with:

  • Volunteers (setup, check-in, takedown)
  • Hospitality donations (snacks, drinks, paper goods)
  • Equipment loans (especially 6-foot folding tables)

If you’d like to get involved, please email: shsnickoftime@stanwood.wednet.edu
