Corinth Celebrations
AP Capstone
We are excited to share that for the 2024-2025 academic year, two seniors and two 2025 graduates are candidates for the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma™, and three seniors and two 2025 graduates are candidates for the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.
The College Board AP Capstone is a two-year program based on two AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. The program helps students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and research and presentation skills that are essential to academic and career success.
Instead of learning subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, the AP Capstone Diploma™ or the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world.

Lady Pirates Win John Jacobs Christmas Classic
The Lady Pirates Varsity Basketball Team has gotten off to a fast start this Winter. During the Break, the Lady Pirates participated with seven (7) other strong teams in the John Jacobs Christmas Classic at Cleveland High School December 27-30. The Lady Pirates defeated Rocky Mount High School and the Lady Comets of Clayton High School in the first two rounds to reach the Classic Championship Game on Tuesday, December 30th. They continued their strong, tough play despite injuries to four (4) Starters during the tournament and played their most complete defensive game of the young season by defeating a physical Nash Central Lady Bulldogs Team 41-27 to win the Classic Championship. During the Classic, Lady Pirate Lauren Sizemore grabbed her 500th career rebound, and Jada Vanderhorst pulled a double-double by scoring her 1,000th career point and grabbing her 500th career rebound to reach some special milestones.
Also, Darla Lee, Chloe Kozloff, Lauren Sizemore, and Jada Vanderhorst were named to the All-Classic Team, and Lee and Sizemore were named Co-MVPs of the John Jacobs Classic. Your Lady Pirates return to CAP-8 Conference play at home on Tuesday, January 6th at 6:30PM. It would be such a great home atmosphere for Pirate Nation to come out that evening to see some entertaining and competitive basketball. Be there!

Seniors- Now is the time to complete FAFSA!
Attention Parents of Seniors:
Happy New Year! As the Class of 2026 is rolling towards graduation, we only have 27% of our 569 seniors who have completed the FAFSA.
Please remember that if your student plans on attending any four year college or any community college, both the student and the parent need to complete the FAFSA.
If your student wants to take advantage of the free tuition at Johnston Community College through the Commissioner's Promise Program, they cannot get it unless the FAFSA is completed.
Even if you think you won't qualify for any Financial Aid, please remember that the Commissioner's Promise Program is not based on income, and many other scholarships require the FAFSA to be completed before scholarship monies are awarded.
Thus, it is beneficial for every senior who is planning on pursuing higher education to fill out the FAFSA. If you need help with the FAFSA, please contact your counselor or/and Mrs. Morrison and we will get you some help.
