Henkle Middle School Bulletin
Dear Henkle Families,
As we prepare to bid farewell to Summer Vacation, I am thrilled to return as your principal this year. At Henkle Middle School, we are more than just a school; we are a family. Our unwavering commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment ensures that every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Your active participation in your child's education is crucial. Whether it's attending parent-teacher conferences, joining our PTO, or volunteering in various capacities, your partnership is invaluable in helping us create a supportive learning environment.
We had a few staff changes this year. Mrs. Harkema will be teaching three sections of 7th grade ELA, Mr. Caviness is our new band/music teacher, and Mr. Changar is our new 7th grade science/8th grade math teacher.
You may have seen Superintendent Polkinghorn’s email about HMS being a cell phone-free campus this year. I appreciate your support as we implement this important change for our students' health and academic focus. More details concerning enforcement will be coming in our Weekly Family Bulletin. Also, as a reminder, student backpacks must be kept in your student’s locker during class time.
Students' schedules will be available on Skyward no later than Friday, August 23. If you need help accessing Skyward, please call the HMS office. This year we are returning to a six-period day. Students will have three trimesters of ELA and math but only two trimesters of science and social studies. This allows for longer class periods and fewer transitions. However, due to space limitations, changes to student schedules will be difficult, especially for electives.
Another significant change this year is that early release days for teacher professional development will be on Mondays.
We are having an Open House on Aug 27 from 3:00 - 4:00. This is an optional event but will allow you to get a head start on the first day of school. Students can meet their teachers, get a copy of their schedule, get assigned a locker, and put your supplies in their locker. The PTO is providing ice cream snacks - thank you WSV PTO!
Enjoy what is left of Summer Vacation!
GO GRIZZLIES!
