Mill Valley Weekly
September 11th, 2025
Hello Mill Valley Families,
Today, we take a moment to pause and honor Patriots Day on September 11th. This day reminds us of the importance of unity, resilience, and caring for one another—values we strive to instill in our students each and every day.
At the same time, we are filled with excitement for the joyful moments ahead this month! We can’t wait for our school dance party and the tradition of our all-school (drone) photo on Friday, September 12th and of course the fun and energy of our Color Run to close out September. These events bring us together as a school community to celebrate learning, friendship, and school spirit.
Thank you for being such an important part of our Mill Valley family—we look forward to sharing in these special experiences together!
In Partnership,
Allyce Harris
Mill Valley Principal

Kindergarten and 1st Grade have been learning about their BUBBLE and moving safely in the gym. They've also been exploring lots of different ways to move their body including different levels (such as high, medium and low) along with different speeds (fast, medium and slow).
2nd, 3rd & 4th grades have been working on some fundamental cooperative activities such as grouping. We have begun our "recess games" unit which highlights 4-square in order to curb disagreements on the black top and maximize participation.
A message from Dr. Silberg (our Behavior Coach)
Dear Parents,
As some of you have read, I am the new Behavior Coach at Lakeview and Mill Valley Elementary Schools. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work with such skilled teachers, EA’s, IA’s and Administrators. Because my schedule is split between the two schools, I will not have the opportunity to work with all students, so we thought it might be beneficial to send some ideas to parents for you to practice with your students at home in our newsletters.
This month, I thought it might be useful to recommend a few techniques to use at home when your students are showing signs of anxiety or stress. Many of us notice that in the beginning of the school year our students are excited to start school, but they may come home exhausted, crabby or overwhelmed. We also might notice that Sunday evenings present some challenges as the start of the school week begins the next morning. Please know that this is extremely common and nothing to worry about; but there are some ways to ease the stress for you and your students.
Below you will find some ideas that are helpful for students when they need to reset their nervous systems. While some may be obvious, it is helpful to print this out and hang on your refrigerator. You may say to your child “I’ve noticed that I need a little reset, would you like to join me?”, or “let’s pick an activity to help you feel more comfortable in your body - which one looks good to you?”.
It might help to create a positive ritual for Monday mornings that get your kids excited for the start of the week. My boys got a special breakfast (Nutella on waffles) every Monday morning.
Finally, I am including a suggestion for an excellent book that has helped me as a parent and an educator:
Self-Reg: How to Help Your Child (and You) Break the Stress Cycle and Successfully Engage with Life
Please remember that you can always reach out with comments, questions or concerns. Dr. S
