Black History Month

Happy Valentine's Day and Frederick Douglass Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all who celebrate.

I also wanted to acknowledge Frederick Douglass Day. Frederick Douglass was famous for saying, "If there is no struggle, there is no progress.

He escaped from slavery in Maryland and became a national leader of the abolitionist movement, becoming famous for his antislavery speeches and writings.

Today, February 14th, we celebrate the birthday of an incredible human being.

The theme for Black History Month 2023 is Black Resistance. This theme honors and recognizes the resistance of historic and ongoing oppression of Black Americans.

Frederick Douglass epitomized Black Resistance.

Valentine's Day Cards Service Project

Shout out to our 5th grade teachers and students for creating and sending cards to Harmony Village's residents. A great example of being a Marigold for those outside of our school community.

Here's a Thank You Message from Harmony Village

I would like to thank you and your students for the Valentine's Day cards for our residents. I would also like to thank your husband for dropping them off with the delicious donuts for the staff.

The cards were so creative and they brightened everyone up. We gave them to the residents the day we got them because many of our residents are sick with Covid. What better way to lift their spirits! I taped each card to their apartment door afterward.

The example you show to your students of how something “so small” could mean something “so big” to these residents is priceless.

I thank each and every one of your students for sharing their creativity and positive spirit. And thank you, Rachel for being a teacher of excellence.

Kindly,

All the residence at Harmony Village
