Class of 2027 Concessions Volunteers

Hello Parents of Class of 2027 GHS Band/Guard Members!

If you have been waiting for a personal invitation to volunteer in the concession stand...here it is!

You are personally invited to VOLUNTEER in a Mustang-Panther Stadium Concession Stand!

There is an urgent need for volunteers during the 2nd shift (8-10:30pm) for the remaining Home Varsity football games plus the Red Rail game!

-10/30 - Red Rail (GHS is the visiting team and we share volunteer duties with CHHS)
-11/6 - Last regular game of the season.

Each family is asked to volunteer for a minimum of 4 shifts per student.

-Funds raised from the HOME Stands benefit the GCISD Band Boosters (a portion goes to the GHS Mustang Band).
-Funds raised from the VISITOR Stands directly benefit the GHS Mustang Band!

There will be additional opportunities to volunteer during post-season games hosted at Mustang-Panther Stadium.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Go Mustangs!

IT'S UNIFORM LAUNDRY TIME

Please help us keep the band from being stinky by signing up to help with laundry. Marching season means a lot of laundry days so there are multiple options to choose from. Please feel free to sign up for more than one day and more than one bag. (But even taking one bag on one day helps!)

Also…..PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pay careful attention to the turnaround time instructions when signing up. Some of the turnarounds are very quick and we MUST get the uniforms back in time so they are ready for the next event.

All laundry bags will come with instructions and supplies needed.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the uniform team.

GHS BAND LAUNDRY 2026

Free All Region Help

  • DFW Double Reed All-State Intensive

This free event is on Sunday, October 25 from 1:00-5:00 pm at UNT. High School students playing oboe, english horn, bassoon, and contrabassoon will have the opportunity to perform in a masterclass setting with the oboe and bassoon faculty of the University of Texas Arlington, University of North Texas, and Texas Christian University. After the masterclasses, students will participate in a mock audition, with written feedback from the faculty. We moved this event earlier this year so that students will have more preparation time to apply the skills they learn to their playing.

We will accept walk-in/late registrations, but we ask that students plan on registering by October 19 so that we know how many students to accommodate. Students can register and find more information at the link below:

https://www.melissabosmaoboe.com/dfwdrasi

  • UTA Bands All-Region Etude Masterclasses

This is a new event at UTA, open to high school students of any wind, brass, and percussion instruments. Students will get the chance to perform and learn from UTA faculty in masterclasses over the etudes and get the chance to hear faculty play on a short recital. These masterclasses are on Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm for the TMEA-track students. There is a $15 fee to register which includes a t-shirt and a UTA swag bag!

Students can register and find more information at the link below:

MARCHING BAND GRADING POLICY

Click here for information regarding weekly marching band grades in Skyward (labeled "Rehearsal Techniques")

FLIP FOLDERS

All students are required to have a flip folder! Not having a flip folder will cause you to fail uniform inspection. Ask your section leader for more information!

MUSIC PASS OFFS ARE CONTINUING

The directors will continue pulling students to pass off all of Part 3 with drill step outs and choreography. They will start pulling students for part 4 pass offs as well

Fight song, alma mater, fillie grand entry, and star spangled banner must be passed off before the end of the 1st 9 weeks. These have already been entered for a grade. Students can raise this grade to a 100 upon completion.

BAND INSPECTION PROCEDURES

Information needed to pass inspection found here.

All-Region Music

Access your instruments All-Region music here. This music will be used to audition for the Region 31 High School all-region bands. It will also be used as your Spring band placement and your Fall semester exam. Students will have All-Region masterclasses on Mondays during the fall semester during their band class.

Freshman Cuts

All freshmen will audition on the 9th grade cuts when they attend Freshman Region auditions later this fall. These cuts will also serve as everyone's semester exam/band placement. 9th grade cuts found here

MakeMusic Assignments

MakeMusic assignments are initially assigned grades using the performance data recorded through the program. The directors meet the morning after submissions are due, watch through all submissions, and discuss the assigned grades. Students are expected to submit a recording of the assigned music by the posted deadline. Any student that submits late must notify Ms. Milton & Mr. Sandre so that they can go in and rectify the Skyward grade. The MakeMusic system does not notify the directors when there is a late submission.

Students receive a grade based on their percentage of correct notes/rhythms in the tempo that the student decided to go. Higher accuracy results in a higher grade, while missed notes, incorrect rhythms, and other performance errors lower the score. Students are encouraged to use the practice and feedback features in MakeMusic before submitting their final recording so they have an opportunity to identify and correct mistakes.

The purpose of these assignments is not simply to earn a grade, but to hold students accountable for individual preparation and provide measurable feedback on their progress. MakeMusic grades are one part of the overall band grade and are intended to reinforce consistent practice and preparation outside of their weekly masterclass.

Private Lessons

Lessons are available for all members of the band program. Please click here and set up lessons if you have not already.

The Grapevine High School Band has over 90% of students enrolled in private lessons. It is such an important part of our student's musical development!
