Classroom Happenings
1st Grade
In 1st grade, we finished building our castles based on 3-D shape learning and some castle research. The groups were quite proud of their work!
They also just finished designing a chair out of paper and masking tape for Baby Bear to replace the one Goldilocks broke! We used pennies as weights to see how sturdy they were.
2nd Grade
To conclude our first unit on systems, second grade GT LEADers used recyclable materials to design race cars.
We've been working on creative thinking since then and have started our second unit on Simple Machines and The Three Little Pigs.
3rd Grade
3rd Grade GT LEADers had a great time at the C.R. Smith Museum! We wrapped up our flight unit, complete with analyzing why certain paper airplanes fly better than others and designing parachutes.
Before moving to our second nine weeks unit, students created an object out of 1 square foot of foil and added a quote to imagine what it might have to say if it could talk. Lots of great brainstorming and creativity went into this little project!
4th Grade
They've now started on their second unit, Detective School!
5th Grade
In 5th grade, we moved into the Glue-A-Shoe project. Modeled after the contest at the State Fair of Texas, students choose a shoe and create a project laced with shoe puns that make the perfect fit for their project. :-)
We've got K-Croc Demon Hunters, the Shoe-troit Lions, The Life of a "Shoe" girl and many more. They've really gotten into this one! We will finish this week and get the projects out for all the 2nd-5th graders to vote on.
